Surnames: Barnes, McLin, Lewis, Hill
Searching for any information on descendents of two Montgomery County former slaves, Smith and Silva (or Silvy) Barnes (my great-great grandparents), who lived in Danville in 1870, and later, in Willis, Texas (1880-1930's). They were married Sept. 29, 1867, and had the following children: Rosa Barnes Lewis (born in Walker County Texas(?) in 1864), Ned E. Barnes (born in Walker County, Tx in 1866), Perry Barnes, Bryant Barnes, Benjamin (Ben) Barnes, Addie Barnes Hill, Gillie Barnes McLin, Anderson Barnes, Jesse Barnes, and Will Barnes. Also seeking information on a Virgil Barnes and a Leonard Barnes, both of whom lived in Montgomery County, Danville area, in 1870. Want to know if and how they were related to Smith & Silva Barnes. Also searching for the name of the former slave owner(s) of Smith & Silva Barnes, and/or the name of the plantation they may have worked and lived on. It is estimated that they were brought to Texas in the late 1850's. They were both born in Alabama. Smith Barnes was about 20 years older than Silva. Smith Barnes died between 1910 and 1920. Would like to be able to verify exact year of death. Silva died in 1936. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please respond to:
