I am doing an ancestory report for my husbands family. His paternal grandparents were (Mary Alice and Rayworth Eugene (bub) Hoover. Bubs parents were James B (Jim) Hoover and Rosa or Rose Arvella Hook. I am looking for further information on James' father possibly by the name of George Hoover. I am unsure if that is correct as no one seems to know his name. I am needing his information to find our further generations on the Hoover side. Any information is appreciated.
Elizabeth Butler Stevenson is buried in Flomot Cemetery. She lived at Gasoline when she died in 1922. Her brother, Johnny or "Shaunny" Butler was married and had a farm near Flomot, I think between flomot and Gasoline. I know that he lived there in the 1940's when his brother-in-law, John Allen Stevenson was buried at Flomot Cemetery. I am looking for any information on this Butler family or any of Johnny Butler's descendants. He and his sister, Elizabeth, were German immigrants to Texas in the late 1800's. She was born on the trip over. I don't know if he was younger or older. His neices and nephews called him "Uncle Johnny" or sometimes, "Uncle Shaunny"(I'm not sure how to spell it, but it rhymes his Johnny.) because of the German heritage.
I would really like to find some one in this family.
John Shafer

My dad and Shannon Davidson was best friends. Shannon was raised in Flomot,TX. One of the horses he rode was one of my dad's plow horses. Shannon died after he got back from California, he was heating lindseed oil in an pot outside and the oil flashed and burned him very bad resulting in his death.
I know Shannon has two nephews still living, Ronnie Rogers of Lubbock and Donnie Rogers not for sure where he lives. His sister Bea Roger I believe may be still living in Flomot.
I grew up with the Roger boys in Flomot. When my dad was alive he always talked about Shannon.I have a picture of them together if I could find it.

Roy Landry
royl43@aol.com

Based on geography, you may have found leads to your Brewer(s)? Silverton and Quitague are in Briscoe County, Flomot is in Motley, and Turkey is in Hall. These counties are in the panhandle area near the Oklahoma border. Matador is in Hidalgo County near the border with Mexico. In my initial search, William Dallas and Ellen were living with their uncle (Samuel R. Conner) in 1910 Garvin, OK. Samuel R. Conner relocated to Harlingen in Cameron County. Cameron is next to Hildalgo County. John Thomas Brewer registered for WWI Draft in Cameron County and named his uncle Samuel R. Conner (of Harlingen) as next-of-kin. We are part of the same generation, so you've got help! I'll get "deeper" into this as time permits. Now, what was your uncle's surname? It would be a big help to know his full name and lifespan. I'm "shooting in the dark" and making suppositions without "clear links"!

Courtesy lookup, not related! Believe he may have been William Dallas Brewer born 16 Mar 1892 in Arkansas to Robert Brewer and Eugenia (Conner) Brewer? If the age is close, then find them in 1900 Indian Territory-Chicksaw Nation-Township 4-District 131-Image 16. Then search 1910 OK-Garvin-Stratford-District 0082-Image 30 living with their uncle Samuel R. Conner(37) and granny Elizabeth Conner(73). William Dallas Brewer registered for WWI Draft in Garvin, OK. Older brother John Thomas Brewer (1 Apr 1880) registered for WWI Draft in Harlinge, Cameron, TX. He listed next-of-kin: R. Conner-uncle. I reviewed your previous message searching for possible clues, but found none related to this surname?

Sheriff George W. Cook, d. 29 May 1895

I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. On 28 May 1895, former Motley Co Sheriff Joe BECKHAM shot and mortally wounded Sheriff George W. COOk as he exited the train in Seymour in Baylor County. BECKHAM fled to the Indian Territory and was killed by a posse about 26 Dec 1895. BECKHAM had been the first sheriff of Motley County but was removed from office in 1894. COOK was elected sheriff on 6 Nov 1894. I would like to know the date of birth for Cook, place of burial and if any surviving family members could be located.

Gillis (Martha Gillis) Holladay did die in 1928 of TB.

Clara Newman Tommey (not Toomey) is my grandmother. Lewis chose to place his children in the Methodist Home in Waco because he suffered from epilepsy that was rumored to have been brought on by being kicked in the head (or something to that effect) by a mule. Later, it said that he was able to control the seizures through diet, but I think that wasn't until most of his children were grown.

Modesta Jean and Willard's children are Bruce & Barry. Willard ran a men's clothing store in San Francisco for a time called the Bruce & Barry store -- named for their children. My mother is named Jean after her.

Doyle Mitchell - Obituary Request

I am looking for the obituary on Doyle Mitchell, b. 14 April 1916; d. September 25, 1972 in Lubbock, Texas. Buried in Roaring Springs Cemetery...I'm guessing this is the name of the Cemetery as well as the town. Doyle married Dorothy Dean Gunn on Sep 3, 1949.

I did find an reading in Roaring Springs Cemetery for a Judson D. Mitchell who had the same date of birth, wife's name Dorothy; but I do not know if this is the same person; my information does not include any reference to Judson.

There is also a listing for Judson D. Mitchell in the "Some Veterans from Roaring Springs, Motley County, Texas" listed under World War II 1941-1946.

While I believe these are the same person as my Doyle Mitchell; hopefully the obituary would confirm my belief or tell I'm wrong. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sue in NE Arkansas

The Matador Maverick reports the killing of Pete Miller by Van Martin, 15 miles
northwest of Matador on the Van Martin ranch on Tuesday of last week. Martin
surrendered to the sheriff and under his statement, corroborated by what could
be seen of the surroundings, as admitted to bail by Judge Anderson in the sum of $750. It seems Martin acting purely in self defense.

J.H. Hodges took the remains of Pete Miller to Esteline for burial.

Annie A. Pruett was my grandmothers younger sister. My dad told me about Annie being married to a Howard Hart Harris. It took me a long time to find Howard Hartwell Harris. I can give you lots of info on the Pruett's (Pruet). My Dad was born in Roaring Springs, Motley, Texas. His name was John Houston McBroom, my grandmother was Minnie Ellen Pruett. I would love to share info with you.

I don't look at this very often and just found your post. We have common ancestors with Hartwell and Indiana and would like to trade information. Fay Golightly was my great aunt and was probably the one who wrote to your mother. Did anyone else ever reply to you?
