Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at Holly Grove for Mrs. Maggie Honea, 54, of Nacogdoches who died Sunday at 2:12 p.m. at Sanatorium, Tex. The Rev. George Nelson officiating and interment was at Holly Grove.
Mrs. Honea was born September 14, 1896, the daughter of John Smelley and Elizabeth Owens Smelley of Nacogdoches County. She married Harvey Honea in 1912. Mrs. Honea was a lifetime resident of Nacogdoches.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey Honea; seven daughters, five daughters; four sisters; three brothers; and 21 grandchildren.
Her daughters are Vonnie Ola Cooper, Trawick; Gladys Bass, Nacogdoches; Oleta Emerson, Nacogdoches; Lucy Mae Fisher, Crosby; Minnie Hyde, Crosby; Lessie B. Smith, Nacogdoches; and Lutherine Dean, Nacogdoches.
Sons are Wilton Scroggins, Baytown; Virgil Scroggins, Channelview; Curtis Scroggins, Nacogdoches; Howard Honea, Nacogdoches; and Ray Honea, Nacogdoches.
Sisters are Mrs. Lucy Tipton, Poolview, Tex; Josie Crenshaw, Port Arthur; Allie Fuller, Cushing; and Mable Vardeman, Oregon; Brothers are Burton Smelley, Moscow; Leslie Smelley, Lilbert; and Jewel Smelley, Nacogdoches.
Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
