Hi to all Oldham County Texas researchers. My name is Terri and I have recently taken over as CC for Oldham County TXGenWeb.
I need your help building this site up so that it will be a good resource for any researchers needing information from this county. I am working on transcribing the 1880-1930 census, and would like to find any other resources that are out there.
I need marriages, obits, surnames and queries for this county. Also, if you have any photos, bible records, family group sheets, histories, or stories, courthouse documents, cemetery photographs or transcriptions, ranch history...just about anything genealogy or historically relevant to Oldham County, would you please consider sharing it with others? Thanks!

Theodore & Emma Mitchell Briggs ~ IL/CA/NM/TX

Private Theodore BRIGGS served under General Carlton Co. B, 1st Regiment, California Volunteers, during the Civil War. Pvt. Briggs mustered out in 1865 at Fort Union, New Mexico.

Theodore BRIGGS married Ynesa MONTOYA at Sapello, San Miguel County, New Mexico, in 1865. They had a daughter named Perfillia born 1867 in San Miguel County, NM.

Ynesa died 1897 at Old Tascosa, Oldham County, Texas, and is buried at Romero Cemetery, Tascosa (now Boys Ranch), Oldham County, Texas.

Theodore BRIGGS married a second time to Emma MITCHELL in 1900 in Oldham County, Texas. A woman named Emma Briggs is listed in the 1900 Census for Oldham County, Texas, which lists two people in the household, Emma age 39 and son, Joseph Mitchell, age 15. They were both born in Tennessee. The census indicates that Emma was married and had been been in the present marriage 0 or 2 years (written over and difficult to read), and that she was the mother of two living children.

Emma's second husband, THEODORE BRIGGS, died in 1903 in Oklahoma, at age 68. He was buried at Garrett Cemetery in Cimarron County, Oklahoma.

I am looking for the place of death and burial for Emma MITCHELL BRIGGS.

Alvin Lynn
Researching following families in Vega:

GREEN
Herbert Glenn Green b. 27 Feb 1876 IL d.23 Feb 1949 Vega, TX
Ruana (Ruey) Stewart Green b. 8 Apr 1882 IL d. 6 Mar 1915 Vega, TX (have cemetery entries)
They had one child: Maxine Green b. 1903 IL. Maxine married Joplin Garrett Owen (probably in Vega). Maxine later married a Mr. Girard (probably also in Vega).

OWEN
Joplin Garrett Owen b. 11 Nov 1899 Joplin, Jasper County, MO d. 2 Oct 1933 Vega, TX (have cemetery entries)

Joplin and Maxine had the following children:
James Herbert Owen b. 1923 (probably in Vega but no record)
Evelyn Owne b. 1925 (probably in Vega but no record)

I can provide lots of info on Ruana Stewart's family and I am willing to trade info with other researchers working on these families.

One item of note...the censuses shows Joplin Owen's occupation as Newspaper Publisher. Can someone on the list fill me in on newspapers that were published in Vega in the early 1900's?

There are at least three cemetary's at Old Tascosa. The Casmere Romero (first), Boothill (second) and the Muncy Cemetery (third one that is a private). Ramero Cemetary is just east of Boys Ranch (OldTascosa), Boothill is west of Boys Ranch (Old Tascosa) on a hill overlooking the Ranch, and Muncy Cemetary is South of the Ranch just across the Canadian River from Boys Ranch. I have been to all three but I can't remember seeing the name of Thomas Boren. He is probably buried either in the Romero Cemetary or the Muncy Cemetary.

My wife's great-great-grandfather Elijah Alexander "Alex" Copeland, according to family legend, is believed to be buried at Vega, Oldham County, Texas. Problem is that I don't have a place of burial...and worse yet, no date. His birthdate was January 21, 1871. He may have been a Native American; possibly Fort Sill Apache...told people he was Mexican 'cause he felt they were treated better than Indians. Does anyone have cemetery burial lists for Vega, Texas?
