You have quite an extensive tree going. I have a small one, with hopes that if I start, it will grow over time. I don't dig too deeply and am not as advanced as you seem to be. It was fun looking at all your information.

Very distant connection, however my husbands maternal grandmother is the person you list as May Farque in your tree. In the Ticaric family tree she is listed as Mary Angeline (nee) Farque. Ist marriage was to Ortiz and second to William May. She was known as May May....born in Orange TX and lived in Beaumont most of her life. Her mother was Docia Davis. She was a half sister to the Blocks. Very confusing.

My name is L. D. Bellard. I recognize your name from a letter(s) to my Aunt Beatrice Bellard DeMary. Her mother and my grandmother was Willie Ann Philmon whose father was Sim(eon) Philmon and Roseanna West Philmon. I am trying to tie the George Drake Family to the Philmons. There is a George Newton Drake who Married (02 AUG 1864) Pennie Penelope Philmon ,b. 05 Jan 1850- d. 1919. That's about all I can find out about her. There is also another Pennie Philmon, born around 1869. I feel she is related to Sim(eon) as she and George had a son named Simeon and Drake family members always came to Philmon family reunions. Any help is appreciated.

Hi McNerthney!
I am doing some research in addition to my sister-in-law, Jennifer Procsal. Her email is part of the original email chain below. I have found many other Procsals thru social medias that are unknown to my husband's family. I have tracked back the family tree, with help of my sister-in-law, to my husband's great-grandfather Istvan "Stephen" Michael Pracsal, who had a brother named Mihaly "Michael" Pracsal (born 9/25/1882) (Last name become anglized to Procsal when they came from Hungry). Is this your family member "Michael" that you are speaking of? I believe that these Procsals that we do not know are related back to your Michael. Would you be able to provide the names of the male family members on that side of the family? We am very interested and hoping to track back how they are related to my husband. Any help you can provide would be so appreciated!! And, of course, we are happy to share information as well.
Sincerely,
Beth and John Procsal

US Naval Receiving Station - Gunshot Death on Jan 3, 1944

My great uncle died of a "gunshot wound, left chest" on January 3, 1944 while he was enlisted in the Navy and stationed at the US Naval Receiving Station in Orange, Texas. This is all according to family stories and confirmed by a Texas death certificate. His name was Claude Coleman Taylor, born January 18, 1924.

I would love to locate more news about this accident/crime but can't seem to find anything. I looked through the Orange, Texas newspaper (Orange Leader) on dates surrounding this event but nothing was mentioned. I figured this must be because the event took place on a military base.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Texas Death Certificate #34567 shows James Fredrick Wilson was born 31 Jan 1910 in Birch Tree Missouri and died on 1 Jul 1950 at Francis Ann Lutcher Hospital in Orange, Orange co, TX. Cause of Death was of heart failure due to 3rd degree burns. He was a carpenter, worked at Weavers Ship Yard where the accident occured. His father was Grover Wilson of Missouri and mother Molly Martin of Illinois. He was divorced, lived at 1607 Dupont Drive in Orange. He's buried in the Jett Cemetery in Orange, Texas. I did not find a death certificate near this date or year for James Linscomb so perhaps his injuries were not as severe. Will continue to look. Hope this helps. liz

Here's a bit of interesting info on Joseph. His headstone date is 15 Apr 1873 but sworn affidavits on 18 Jul 1874 by his wife Mary D, John D Brewer, Julius Clabar in the Texas Land Grant records say Joseph died "some time during the present year (1874)". The land was surveyed 29 Nov 1860 & again 5 Aug 1873 for Joseph so he was alive in Aug '73. Although the headstone and the Linscomb cemetery historic placard says he died in 1873, I find it difficult to believe that 3 people who knew him would perjure themselves to the State of Texas. So I'm going with the death year as 1874 for my 3rd great grandfather but certainly would entertain other opinions.

The Linscombs of Orange, TX, are pretty much related. The Christopher Columbus Lincecum of Gonzales is a son of John J and Olivia Young Linscomb of Orange. This Christopher aka "CC" had a son Roger Milam b. 1894. Roger moved back to Orange. He spelled the last name like his dad: Lincecum. So Orange has Linscombs and Lincecums but they are the same family. Does this info help? There is another clan of Lincecums in Texas, most related to Dr Gideon Lincecum, but he wasn't a descendant of Joseph Bazil Linscomb, father of Joseph who is the Orange, Texas, patriarch.

The last info I have is John Linscomb's name appears on a Report of Paroled Confederate POWs taking Amnesty Oath at Beaumont, TX on 27 Jul 1965. There are several men named Christopher Columbus Linscomb/Lincecum, most are related. John Linscomb & Olivia Young had a son Christopher Columbus born 1859 in Orange TX aka "CC Lincecum" of Gonzales, TX. (This is Walter M's reference in subsequent posts). CC's brother Harvey had a son named Christopher Columbus Linscomb born 1856 in Orange, TX, aka "Lum". This is my great "Uncle Lum" who lived his entire adult life in Austin, Texas. Although married, he had no children. CC of Gonzales, as posted by others, had a son, Columbus Bertie, who had a son named Christopher Columbus Lincecum born 1923 Erath, TX, died 2000. This Christopher had a namesake son born 1951, died 2008 Brazos county, TX. Hope this clears some of the Christopher Columbus confusion. I'll respond to the other posts separately.

This is not uncommon in family trees. The further you go back in years the worse the spelling was. Have you ever read Old English where the same word was written different ways on the same page? John Linscomb spelled his name right in Orange but misspelled it Lincecum while living in Gonzales in 1900. That is why I could not find him. Poor CC probably learned to spell his name on the trail with all those Gideon Lincecum's who were never kin to him. It is spelled Lincecum on his grave and my wife refused to believe me when I found John J. and CC in the 1860 census spelled Linscomb.

I used to have a list of all the different spellings that I found in my research and I had over 60 ways. Many people could not read or write so the military record keepers could not spell their names right and the government paid foreigners to take the census so we get many variations. Linscum, Linscombe, ..... I just saw today.

Joseph Linscomb (1789-1873) was okay with "Linscomb" and that's good enough for me! He was the patriarch of the family being discussed.

I just looked and did not find John J. in Linscomb Cemetery in Orange. I had really studied every Linscomb buried there to see how they all we related when I built the family tree.
John J. is listed as J. Lincecum in the 1900 census which iimplies that he might not have used his first name. I also need to find when and were Olivia died and is buried.

I finally see what you are saying. I never found Bertie in my research and my wife did not know about him. She lived in Gonzales with Victor and went to school there for a while. Thank you for replying and straightening me out, I can now fill some gaps. Last night I found John J. under the spelling Lincecum, in the 1900 census living alone in Gonzales County as a widower but I did not know that he was buried in Linscomb Cemetery. I will now check that out. Please visit my website for the entire Linscomb family tree as I researched several years ago. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wem1/linsc...

You indicated your wife descended from Victor Gordon Lincecum (8 Aug 1885 - 4 Oct 1966) who died in Caldwell County. On 1900 Gonzales, Garland was the brother born after Victor and "Bertie" aka Columbus Bertie was the eldest. John J.'s parents buried Linscomb Cemetery, Orange County, TX.
