Do you happen to know the history of Ballew Cemetery? I have some relatives buried there, but I am curious about why this little cemetery exists versus the bigger one in town.

Best regards, Joe.

Rebecca Clement (21 Nov 1827 - 22 Feb 1911) has findagrave memorial with picture in Grayson County. Consider adding source documentation to your tree? Census data, military draft/service, death certificates, marriage info, etal will enhance your research.

Okay! I'm somewhat disjointed because of death in the family! Don't recall where I found death info for Willie John Clement (18 Dec 1863 - 2 Oct 1864) or Sally Ester Clement (23 Nov 1870 - 30 Jul 1872)? Arthur Holmes Clement (11 Jul 1874 - 3 Dec 1939) has findagrave memorial in Wise County. John Lee Clement (16 Mar 1886 - 25 Apr 1951) has findagrave memorial in Murray, OK same cemetery as father, stepmother (18 Jun 1858 - Oct 1916), etc. Bluford "Clements" wed Rebecca Davenport, 17 Apr 1844 in Fannin, TX. That's found https://familysearch.org/ If/When my head becomes more clear, I'd like to explore the possibility of kinship between Bluford and Abraham Clement. Both christensed sons Riley and they resided in close proximity. Bluford lived in Grayson County while Abraham built his home in Lamar County.

I realize this reply is long overdue for you. Elizabeth Cordelia Wood was my Great Grandmother. I am researching Spruce M Wood and have been for years. Elizabeth's mother was Mary Manada. In the 1880 U.S. Census Mary's father was listed as Virginian and her mother Indian. As Dana has told me Spruce married Mary during the wagon train to Texas from Missouri. Dana didn't know why Nancy Parsley didn't go to Texas on the wagon train. By the way it was illegal to marry a native in Missouri so Spruce would have had to marry Mary in Oklahoma or Texas.

Hello fellow Cameron Clan member!

Our George W. Cameron, came to Texas in 1895, and the others to Oklahoma, in 1900, in Pawnee, County.

Descended from Peter Newton Cameron, born in Kentucky, our family story is that we are Scot-Irish Cameron's.

My GrGrGrandfather was John Powers (1793-?1864)he was married to Nelly (1805-1897). They are both listed in the 1860 Census, Palo Pinto Co. She died in Missouri where the rest of the family lived. Would anyone have information about the family or where John Powers might be buried. I've seen the post about a John Powers in Whitesboro, Texas cemetery and during the war he had distant relatives (Jim McCool)there. The family had owned slaves in Missouri so may have fought for the Confederacy although a little old at 71. Thanks in advance for any help.
Steve Ray
I have done further study on this family. I found the unmarked gravesite of Giles Grantham in Phoenix AZ near twin Buttes. I have a picture of it on my tree. Giles son, Elbert Giles, died in Williams AZ circa 1975. I'd like some info on Giles' twin brother Jesse. Oh, and I figured out the name confusion regarding Andrew Jackson's death certificate. Molly is a nickname for Elizabeth.

If online research has been your sole/primary focus todate, you might never solve that brickwall! Strong possibility his parents were G. T. Pierce/Sarah LNU? In 1880 Somervell-Precinct 1-146-Image 14, G. T./Sarah can be found. The next forward image has Moses/Sarah. That's the only enumeration of G. T. Pierce. In view of his age in 1880, he may have died in Somervell? Proving kinship will probably require research of probate records? FYI a couple of family trees agree with my assessment.

I also have gone on this ghost walk through Mineral Wells. I was speaking with the guide afterwards and she was telling me many of Norwood's records couldn't be found since they were said to have done human experiments in the basement with special needs children that were abandoned at the hospital. I have not found any further proof of this however she discussed Nazi human experiments and other experiments that he used to further his studies in medicine. If this is true I am concerned that the records for Dr Norwood are no longer available for fear of releasing too much information. I am also looking for a child that my great-grandmother abandoned but have had no success in finding any dates or information on him at all.

Just saw your post while I was searching for info about the Norwood hospital. I took a baker hotel ghost tour that took us by the Norwood hospital, which is condemned now and there is a crazy old man living on the third floor. However the guide told us she found out there were adoptions that went on at the baker, and that some of the children stayed at the Norwood hospital until they were adopted out. Apparently they bought babies and children for 300 or so dollars and then adopted them out. She said she met a man who actually remembers being sold for 450.00. There were a couple different stories she tells about it, but one was from a suicide note found on a tattered teddy bear next to the baker in a shop, it says she was a young girl who got pregnant and was forced to sell her baby for 300.00 to the baker. Just thought I would share!

Of course, both my dh and I have Smith family, but many people will find they do have a Smith family connection somewhere down the line. On my dh,s we sent to get the SS Appl. and were able to go further, without it, there is no way we would have been able to.It was money well spent to us. There is a lot of info on the forms, such as birth locations, parents names, ect. I wish you luck.

You might try to send for the SS appl. as it should have his parents names listed. Albert would have filled it out himself, and the person who filled out the DC did not know. The Smith name is hard to search. Good luck.

I am one of Mary Catherine's great-granddaughters. My grandmother was Emma York-Daves wife of William S. Daves. My mother was Betty K. Gray-Butler and I am Jewel Orvilla Butler-Gibson.

Was you Great-grandfather John York? If so, you will find his dad listed as Melvin L. York and his wife Narcissus in the Palo Pinto, Tx census.

In 1900 Mary had already married Wm. S. Daves in 1889 and was living in Dallas, Tx. Mary died Jan 23, 1932. She is buried in the Brazos, Palo Pinto County area. I think she IS buried next to William with no marker. Please feel free to contact me at jojeg@verizon.net.

George Boyd, TX, late 1800's

A puzzle for all you genealogists out there.

Jessie Elva McDonald was my Grandfathers second wife. He was Raleigh Job.

S.S. records her death as Jessie Job, Jan. 1982, and shows her birth as Jan. 23, 1890. I show that she was born in 1886.

In 1880, Milam Co. TX, there lived a family of D. McDonald, 34, b. TX, wife, S.C., 26, b. Miss., J.M., son, 8, L.G., 5, daug., D. son, 3, and unnamed son, 1/12. Also there was B.B. Cooley, 22, who was a brother to S.C., although it didn't say that, the maiden name of Sophronia McDonald was Cooley.

In 1900, Milam Co. TX, they were Daniel, 54, b. 1846, TX, Married for 29 years, wife Sophronia, 46, b. 1853, Miss., 10 children living of 12 born to her., Roy, son, 20, Jerry, son 18, Arthur and Luther, twin sons, b. 1884, Jessie E., SON, MALE, b. Jan 1886, 14,Charles D., son, b. 1889, and Cora E., b. 1893.

Q. Is there any record to be had that shows this person b. either in Jan. 1886 or 1890, and whether male or female?

In 1900, Milam Co. TX, there were Ruben Holbert, wife Bettie, and sons, Ben, 28, b. TX, Ivy, 19, b. TX, and Wiley, 15, b. TX.

In 1902, Jessie married Ivy Holbert.

Q. Would this marriage record show parents names? Birth dates or ages?

About 1904 Jessie and Ivy had a daughter, Minnie.

Q. If this birth record is available, would it show ages of the parents?

In 1910, Milam Co. TX, listed were Sophronia McDonald, widow, 56, Luther, 26, Charley, 20, and Cora, 18. Also there was a Granddaughter, Minnie Holbert, 6.

I cannot find Jessie in the 1910 census anywhere.

Sometime between the conception of Minnie Holbert, ~1904, and the second marriage of Ivy Holbert, ~1908-1909, apparently Ivy and Jessie were seperated, probably by divorce.

Q. Is there a record of this divorce?

In 1910, Woodbury Co. IA, were I. L. Holbert, 29, and wife Ethel, 19, who had been married for one year. (1908-1909).

Q. Is there a record of this marriage in either IA or TX?

There is a photo of Jessie existing that shows on the back the notation, Mrs. Boyd, 1914, Alto TX, (in Cherokee Co.). Looks like she re-married to a Mr. Boyd.

Q. Any record of this marriage of either a Jessie McDonald or Jessie Holbert to a Mr. Boyd in either Milam or Cherokee Co. TX?

In 1920, Ivey and Ethel and 2 children are in Dakota Co. NE, in 1930, in NE, as Halbert, and in 1940, in NE as Ivan, with no Ethel.

In 1940 Jessie is listed as wife of Raleigh Job, living in Chicago.

On July 11, 1941, in Putnam Co. IN, Raleigh Job is married to Jessie.

I found in 1920, in Palo Pinto Co. TX, a J. E. Boyd, 33, b. TX, as the wife of G. W. Boyd, 47, with L. B. Boyd, daughter, 13, W. M. Boyd, daughter, L. L. Boyd, 7, son, H. D., 5, son, and W. A., 2, son.

Q. Could this be Jessie re-married to a Boyd ~1906-1907?

Q. Would there be a marriage license of that marriage in either Milam, Cherokee or Palo Pinto Co?

In 1930 this couple was in Wise Co. TX, and the Names were George, 55, and Alice J., (possible mis-written Elva?) 44. They had sons Luther, 18, H. D., 15, Everett, 5, and a daughter Viola, 9. There was a granddaughter, Marie Extell, 5, b. TX also.

Anxious to get the answer to any of these questions. Thanks, Paul
Hello Bill.

I too, am descended from the Palo Pinto Dalton-Slaughter "connection"...from the first marriage of Ottie Della Dalton, the eldest daughter of Robert Dalton and Millie Slaughter.

I lived in Washington State for many years, so certainly wish I could have visited with you and your Dad. Do contact me if you'd like what further info I might provide on my line...and I'd love to know any family stories you might provide!

It looks like they were married by then. They also had a son named Franklin D. Nancy Emaline was my great-grandmother.

Thanks,
Paula

There's enough information in your original posting to "figure it out". She was Mary Alice (nee: Messner) Moore (19 Apr 1885 - 19 Mar 1974) born in Louisiana and died in Mineral Wells. Her daughter, Mrs. Olen Adkins, was the informant. Document viewable/printable https://familysearch.org/ Mrs. Olen Arthur Adkins (Alice Gertrude Newberry) and her husband have two birth records listed http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=8781 You can request a copy of the marriage certificate from the county clerk http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/cclerks.shtml#M The Newberry-family were long-term residents of Palo Pinto County. If interested, search 1930 Palo Pinto-Mineral Wells-District 13-Image 26 for Earl Newberry(43). From there you can find links to his earlier census records. I'm not related to any surname mentioned!
