Mary Caroline married to Stephen B McCommas

My great great grandmother was Mary Caroline McCommas. She was allegedly born in Parker County in 1854 but no record of her birth can be found there. I am searching for the identity of her mother also named Mary Caroline. Her mother was born around 1827 in Missouri and married John S Barnes, had two children (one Sarah E born 1848 in MO, one unknown born 1850/1851 in TX) before John Barnes passed away around 1851. Mary Caroline then married Stephen B McCommas. Probate records in Tarrant TX refer to her only as widow to John S Barnes. Anyone recognize these names? I have tested on 23amdme and my dad has too. This line goes down Dad's maternal side. Desperate to find info on this person. I believe the name Pleona holds significance. Mary Caroline McCommas marries William Fulkerson and names a daughter Pleona Melvinie Fulkerson. Pleona was Dad's maternal grandmother.

Designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in Texas Birth Index

Many people have been confused by the designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in the Father's Name Field in the Texas Birth Index.

I emailed the Texas Department of State Health Services and according to them:

This designation is actually **DEATH FILE NUMBER EXISTS***, and it means that the baby was deceased. At the time that the birth certificate was data entered, the only way to make the notation in the electronic record that the baby was deceased was to enter this in the father’s name fields. The actual birth certificate will show the name of the father if that information was available, and the birth certificate will be stamped "DECEASED."

This format is outdated, however, and no longer used.

Note: Several people have pointed out to me that Texas has made mistakes with this designation, so use good judgment and further research when you see this designation in the Index.

Something is definitely amiss here. I found Horace Grigsby in 1900 Azle, Parker co TX, but I don't see the LB Barnes you mentioned. I only see Horace, wife Mary, children: Caldonia, Scott, Henry, Maudy, Tennie, and Horace.

Next I find 1910 Tarrant co, pct 5(which is probably Azle, as Azle IS on the county line of Parker AND Tarrant):
Family #143 and Dwelling #143 is H W Grigsby and wife M E Grigsby with children Callie and Maude.

BUT on the next page is the LB Barnes 16 year old as family #124 and dwelling #124. Now over on the next page at the top is the rest of HW and ME children: Tina and Edward. They are listed as the continuation family #143 and dwelling #143.

Looks like the census pages are out of order for some odd reason. But the Grigsby family starts on 8-A, next page over is the LB Barns on 8-B, then 9-A are last two Grigsby children. So, the family and dwelling numbers are out of order, but the page numbers appear to be in the correct order.

Hope that helps. I don't believe this LB Barnes is the daugher of HW and ME Grigsby... unless she is found in another census with them and a relation stated.

Also if you look at sheet 7-B is GW Barnes as family #123. Definitely out of order.
Their obituaries might sort out the relationship.

It's possible she was a cousin they adopted -- or it's possible that the census was wrong for one of the years.

I'll keep looking...

If you look at the original 1910 US Census you'll see that L.B. Barnes is on the next sheet, and that the next family is the Barnes family. It's likely that she is actually the daughter in the Barnes family, and that she's been "grouped" incorrectly.

Take a look....

Update: Nope, she probably isn't the Barnes' daughter -- Mrs. Barnes had only two children living and they're listed. It's still likely that she's related to them, though.

Hi kepgw. When making a post, please try to post as much info on a person as you have, such as birth dates, death dates, and locations, maidian names of the female. Like William who? It appears you are just starting genealogy. Just giving you some pointers on getting the best help you can.
Now, we can get started here. William A. Jones is buried in Woodland Park
burial place: Mineral Wells, Tx. He died according to his DC in Mineral Wells, Palo Pinto Co. Texas, on Jun. 12, 1956. B. Aug. 8, 1878 in Wales. William was a widow, and the informant on his DC (death cert) was a Mrs. Mourine Kingsland.
David Jones died Nov. 9, 1911. per his DC, and is listed as being buried in the City cememtery of Parker Co. Texas.
Now, Margarett is buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Weatherford, Parker County, Texas. Her DC list her as C. W. Scott. She was the wife of Clyde W. Scott. Margaret died Jun. 21, 1931 in Ft. Worth, Tarrant Co,, Texas, but was buried in Parker Co.
Evan P. Jones died in Mashall, Harrison Co, Texas, on 04 Dec 1916.
also from Taney County, my Griffith, the Wooley family, and the Adams all came about the same time. The histories and
Surname File has a lot of info on the Longs. Trails West, the quarterly of PCGS also printed info on the family. Not knowing where you live, but the quarterlies are in libraries across the country. After years of searching, I still have not found all of these people in 1860, probablly still on the mmove to Texas. What exactly are you looking for? Evlyn Broumley

To Ryan and Rachelle an offer of help if needed
To Rachelle and Ryan,

To both of you: Out of memory of your mom, please let me know if I can ever do anything for either one of you? I made this offer to Rachelle yet I want to also extend it to Ryan who Sarah bragged on equally with Rachelle the times I visited her in the hospital or at other locations from 2003 to her passing in 2005.

To Rachelle: Please pass on my offer of help above to your brother. My feeling is that this Ancestry.com posting is only viewed by you and not him???? You invited me to join your group of friends on facebook yet please understand that I have had a bad experience with facebook so I prefer not to spend much time with that website service. Ryan and you are welcome to contact me at any of the following email addresses should y'all think of anything I could do to help?:

mortonfan100@yahoo.com or mortonfan@hotmail.com or tonym@mullinisd.net

I do not own a cell phone and a phone number to offer to Ryan or you. My work place issues me a phone to use that is shared with other employees. At least one of the above three email accounts should be working for a long time.

Please do NOT think my offer of help is me being a nice guy, instead it is yet one more memorial type memory of your mom's caring nature. i.e. she would be offering to help my child, Cayla, if cancer had taken me and not her in 2005.

To both of you, God Bless.

Sincerely,
Tony Mathison
1977 WHS Classmate of Sarah Whitehead (Gorman/Morse)
Rachelle,

I am so shocked to read your reply. Thank you a thousand times for confirming what your mom told me about her final resting place plans. That plan being that her ashes were to be spread over a mountain side in New Mexico. I would have wasted hours looking for sometype of grave marker for her ashes at Buckner Cemetary had you not confirmed what I thought to be true.

When I went by your Aunt's home in the spring of your high school graduation year to leave you a cash graduation gift (in memory of your mom who clearly cared about and loved you dearly), I figured I would never hear from, come in contact with, etc. anyone from Sarah's family again. However, I was expecting maybe a posting about your mom from your Aunt or your brother.

I remember every memory you mentioned in your posting about your mom.

Like you, I miss her more and more each day. I even have copies of what she wrote to me in my high school yearbook. I keep it in various places where I see her note to me often. There was an incident in Nov. of 2010 that ensured to me that at the deepest level of my heart, your mom held the key. The story of that incident is corney yet special to me. I am also glad I got to attend her memorial service on July 7th, 2005 (I think the date is correct?)

I would like to offer to help to you in the future as a memorial to & memory of your mom. I would do anything to help you if you ever asked DEPENDING ON if I am in a position to help in what ever way you might ask?

I currently have three jobs and need to close to attend to so some of my duties. God Bless You!!! today and in the future.

Mr. Tony Mathison; WHS '77 Classmate of Sarah Gorman (Whitehead). mortonfan100@yahoo.com or this website posting service.
My mother was cremated. And yes, her ashes were spread off a mountain in New Mexico she used to take me too when I was young. She is not at Buckner Cemetery. Tony, if you need any other information you can contact me. She cared a great deal about you. And always spoke so highly of you. I remember one day when we visited you at the inspection place we took her black Ford to. She was ecstatic to see you. That's the day I met you. That was a good day for her. I miss her more and more each day.
