Hello, thanks for offering to help me. A very nice lady in Parker County looked through 4 volumes of headstone transcriptions and could not find my Uncle Dudley Estill anywhere. I'm almost positive that he is in an unmarked grave in Old City Greenwood Cemetery, the only cemetery around in 1884.

I checked the 4 volumes of Parker County cemetery tombstone inscriptions, including the one for Weatherford. I di not find a Dudley Estill listed in any of them. There are 5 cemeteries in Weatherford city limits today, Old City Greenwood, East Greenwood, Oakland, Curtis and Hilltop, the main colored cemetery, altho there are blacks buried in Old City Greenwood, this would be the only one in town in 1884. Sorry to say that many of the old stones are unreadable today, also there has been some vandal damage in all. Evlyn Broumley

Found this while searching for your names. Do you have any of the childrens names that I could look for? Do you think this could be your John Howard Scott?

Fort Worth Morning Register
1902-01-19

HUSBAND OF EIGHT WIVES

John Scott, Arrested at Uniontown, Kentucky, Confesses to Bigamy

EVANSVILLE, IND. JAN. 17--John Scott, known under the names of Howard and Donnell, was arrested at Uniontown, Ky., last night on the charge of bigamy, and today confessed his guilt. Scott is a real estate man, and has done business in almost every state in the Union. In 1892 he married Miss Lulu K. Frost at Springdale, Ark. He lived with her for a few months, and it is alleged, after getting a farm, left her. He was next heard of in Tennessee, where he married Mrs. Sallie Corder, near Paris, and afterward deserted her. Three other wives he claimed after this time were Mrs. Mary A. Gott of Ruddyville, Ky., and Mrs. Jane Mattingly of Bowling Green, Ky. The names of his three other wives he refuses to give. Scott's scheme, it is said, was to claim he was a banker with large holdings in New York and London.

Texas did not require birth or death certificates before 1903, very few were filed after that. The state began to threaten doctors in the 19-teens if they did not start to file them. Birth information might be found in family bibles, tombstones, obituaries, census records, particuly the 1900, but never accept one record as absolute correct, try to find more than two sources at least that agree. People at your time period were born at home with Grandma, midwife, etc. mostly without a doctor. Evlyn Broumley

There may be an Ash Creek burial group, I do not know of it. The Azle Public Library, 609 S. E. Parkway Ave., Azle, TX 76020, phone 817-444-7114, might be able to help with who to contact. Burial records for that time period are very rare, death certificates were not kept. Newspaper obits might help, but Azle is on the Parker/Tarrant County line and it was a long way to the county seats. You have the exact date of death, a request can go to the Weatherford Public Library, 1014 Charles St., Weatherford, TX 76086, phone 817-598-4150, ask for reference. There are a few newspapers for 1904. The Fort Worth, Texas Public library will also have newspapers, I am not familiar with them for 1904, but it is possible. Evlyn Broumley

A Simon Cockrill was a Captain during the Civil War if I'm not mistaken in Kentucky. Simon N. Cockrell shows up in the 1900 census as Simon N. Cockrell as head of household living alone with a Pace on one side and a Robertson on the other at the age of 99 (100 if you go by his tombstone)in Parker Co., Texas.

There is a decent family tree on Ancestry with Simon Cockrell listed with descendants wou might want to look at. It may give you a lead. cathymiller21 is the user. Search Simeon Cockrell.

Does anyone know of a contact person for the Ash Creek Cemetery Association? I would like to research in the burial records but I cannot find a contact for the association, which supposedly has the records. Or, does anyone know the whereabouts of the cemetery records? I'm researching Simon Cockrell, who was buried in the cemetery in 1904.

Thank you,
Amanda Dyer
Jarrell, TX

Hi, Shadrack Dickinson Thomas was married to Sarah Holman about 1826. They had six children: Sufrona (1827), Elonson (1829), Cap. Samuel Brown (1831), Ann (1837), John (1843), and Noel Gill (1845). She was listed in the Spanish census for Sabine County, Texas and in the U.S. census in 1840. She was not in the census in 1850, Shadrack was listed with the remaining children. He married Mrs. E.W. (Polly)Brown in 1855 and she was his widow. He died in 1872 in San Augustine County. He is buried in Chireno, Texas in the Thomas cemetary.
I had a mystery lady that was a distant relative that I could call 25 years ago and she had the family Bible. I have been trying to connect Sarah to the Isaac Holman that came to Texas in 1834/5, but I think she was his niece. If you have any info, I would appreciate your help. Thanks.
Hi,
Not sure that anyone has responded to your request. But I did a little digging. H.J Seaberry and Nancy Louisa Voyles Seaberry had several children.
William Cicero Seaberry b. 28 Mar 1882
Effie b. 15 Oct 1884
James Warren Seaberry b. 1 Mar 1887 and he died 24 Feb 1974 in La Porte, Harris County, Texas.
James Warren Seaberry had a son James Warren Seaberry Jr. who married Evelyn Lucille Harding and they had three daughters. I have been able to track the oldest daughter, Andrea Diane Seaberry, and she married Curtis Arthur Pardon and they are living in Dayton Texas.

Here is their address as of 2002:
124 County Road 6503

Dayton, TX 77535-7664
(936) 257-0331
wife listed as Andrea.

Hope this helps.

Helen Parker
compgenie@yahoo.com

If they do not want the bible, it might be that you could contact the Parker County Historical society and/or the library and Jean the genealogist at the library in Weatherford would be happy to have the bible for their files.
I am looking for an ancestor, Mark Parker, b. 1730 in VA. She and Hezekiah Shelton were married in early 1780's.

I am mainly looking for the names of Mary's parents. I've been looking for her for a couple of years but keep running into dead ends.

If you have any information about Mary, I would appreciate it. Nadie

I am trying to sort out his wives that were named Brown. I am planning a trip to San Augustine and Chireno to see what I can find. If you have any additional information I would be pleased to know what other information you have on the Browns or Thomas line. Thank you.

Re: Franklin C. Brown from Maury Co., TN to Parker Co., TX

The family of F. C. Brown is like the information we have here in Weatherford, Except the twin daughters, the youngest children, noted as "were in arms" when their mother was killed. Information about the family is best told in an article from the old "Frontier Times", Vol. 1 No. 24, September 1924, pages 18 and 19. Thomas U. Taylor, Dean of Engineering, U. of Texas, wrote the story from information from Joseph Shotwell Brown in 1920 at San Marcos. It took a while to get Joseph's consent to publish the info. I had the privilege of giving a copy of the story to Mrs. Arlie Pickard Voorhies, daughter of Eliza Jane Brown Pickard. Mrs. Voorhies told me that was the most correct information, the same as she had heard from her mother. The twins was carried to safety by Sarah (sis) and Martha, about two weeks later, Sarah died from arrows and twin, Essie died, she refused to take any nourishment. Tennie, twin, later married Will Philip and lived in Fayette County. You can have your librarian inter-library a copy of this story. The family has now place a monument to Sarah and the two daughters at the gravesite. Hope this helps you, it is also the best info I have seen after over 30 years in Parker County history and 23 years as Gen. & history librarian at W. P. L. Evlyn Broumley

John W. Davis was married to Francis/Frances E. Carpenter born in Tishomingo Co. MS in about Dec. 1859. She is listed on the 1860 Census for Tishomingo, MS taken in Aug. 1860 as Francis Carpenter 9 months. Francis is also listed on 1870 Census in Henderson Co, TN and then as Frances in 1880 in Parker Co, TX.

Her mother was Lucy Austin, Born 26 May 1831, I think in Anson Co. NC. Lucy died on 17 Feb. 1902 and is buried in Campbell, Noland Co. TX.

Her father was Frazier Carpenter, Born in 1828, I think in Anson Co. NC. He died on 8 Sep. 1863 and is buried at Cornith National Cem. Glendale, Forrest, MS. Interesting side note is that he fought for the Union during the Civil War.

I am going to hire a researcher in Anson Co, NC to hopefully find out the parents of Frazier Carpenter. Do you have any information on John W. Davis and Frances E Carpenter Davis after 1880?

If you are related to my client, it is way, way back. Be sure to look at rootsweb database index for some more information, probably from your relatives. That database is lots easier than ancestry to use. I use it all the time. My mystery Carpenter was Thomas from Amherst VA whose descendants moved to TN, KY etc. and we don't have him "pinned down" after some really sharp guys have been at it for a long time. We can find significant neighbors but not documentation. Thank you for your interest; I am sorry I don't have anything helpful.

My brickwall family is the descendants of Benjamin Carpenter, son of Abner, two of whose descendants exactly match 37 DNA markers of Jackie Carpenter, whose research I am helping with. Benjamin's wife was a Buzby, they originated in KY and TN, lived in IL and NE and ended up in TX. We have a William, son of Benjamin, whose obituary and death record we have never found. I guess I need to know the maiden name of your Lucy and death date and place of William. Do you belong to any Carpenter website? I am trying to look at all of them and there are lots of Carpenters! Thanks, Grace in AK

Thanks so much for the research that you did. I found a direct descendant of the Seaberry's and she has the Bible now.

Thank you for the reply and sorry for the delay in answering.

I have visited the cemetery and have photos of the headstones.

I was hoping that the obits might give more information on the extended family, so if you could find them, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you
