ACGS member, Certified, Professional Genealogist Debbie Parker Wayne of Cushing will be the program presenter. Her subject will be Using DNA Information in Genealogical Research. Her program will include the latest evidence in the field of DNA as applied to family history research.
In addition to working for private clients, Mrs. Wayne has been a presenter at numerous genealogy and history related events on DNA and other genealogical topics including recent programs through the Texas General Land Office, an all-day seminar in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and the Angelina College Genealogy Conference. Mrs. Parker who retired after a long career in the computer industry is scheduled to be a presenter at the Texas State Genealogical Society Conference in November in Fort Worth on the topic of DNA.
Ellen Pyle, editor of the ACGS Spring and Fall newsletter is seeking articles and items of interest to area genealogists for inclusion in the Fall/Winter newsletter. Only people who have paid dues for 2012 will be sent the ACGS Fall/Winter newsletter either by e-mail or by regular mail the newsletter editor said.
ACGS dues are based on the calendar year January-December. Dues are still being accepted throughout the year according to ACGS Treasurer Sharon Elliott. ACGS dues are S10.00 for individuals and $15.00 for two people at the same address.
The ACGS executive board will meet at 4 PM in the Community Meeting Room of Kurth Memorial Library prior to the regular society meeting and program. At the executive board meeting ACGS President Dickie Dixon is expected to appoint a nominating committee for the nomination of society officers for the upcoming 2013 Calendar Year. All executive board meetings are open to the society membership and all society meetings are open to the public.
Free individual genealogical research help is available on the 3rd Monday of each month (except January and December)from 1-4 p.m. in the Ora McMullen Genealogy Room, Kurth Memorial Library, 706 Raguet Street, Lufkin, Texas 75904, 1-936-630-0563, provided by members of the Angelina County Genealogical Society.
