Born @ 1906 we believe in Ario de Rosales, Michuacan. She married Mariano Medina and moved to California. She had 3 sons and 1 girl. She died in the 1930's, but no death certificate can be found. We are looking for cause and place of her death and any other information about her. No one remembers where she is buried. She is on the 1930 census and this is the last information we found. Thanks

Thanks for the update on Herman Gregg. I have not found additonal info about Lata/Lota Gregg and her daughter,
Ada Lee Gregg, as they were listed on the 1940 census, but
did find Herman's U.S. World War II Army Enlistment Records, 1938-1946, which states he was in Reagan County, Texas and listed as Divorced, without dependents. His enlistment date: 28 November 1942 and enlistment city: Abilene

Not much help but he died 13 Oct 1955 in Howard County, TX. Online death certificate at https://familysearch.org/ Mrs Herman Gregg was the informant but no info found for her. Ada Lee must have been Herman's stepdaughter 'cause he was single in 1930? No birth records found for Herman/Lata.

Courthouse Fire, Late '20s/Early '30s?

My grandmother was born in Best in 1925, and she believed the courthouse to have burned and her original birth certificate to have been destroyed while she was a child. They had since moved to Nolan County, but her mother re-registered her birth, remember the date but possibly spelling her first name differently (Marguerita - Margaret). I have found information on a courthouse fire in 1999 but nothing else, only that the county seat moved on her very date of birth - 23 May 1925 - because a rancher refused land to allow the town to expand.

Anyone know about this alleged fire in the late 1920s/early '30s?

William Rogers Atwood died 1939 Reagan County

William Rogers "Doc" Atwood is my G-G-Grandfather. His wife, Mary Alice Costlow, died approx 1915 in East Texas. Most likely in the Palestine area.
I have a record of him in the 1900 Census in Anderson County. I haven't found him in any of the following Census. His son Jack's WW1 registration card shows that William Rogers Atwood was living with his son in Granbury, Texas in 1918. The next record I have for Wm R Atwood is a death record in Reagan County, Texas.
Wm R Atwood was completely blind. So what brought him to Reagan County. I would love any info at all. I have personally explored the Stiles Cemetery and the Glen Rest cemetery and could not find a marked grave. I have a hunch that, based on the time from his last known address in Granbury and his death in Reagan County, that he came to the Reagan County area for oil field work. I believe the Santa Rita #1 was discovered in the mid-20's. Possibly a son came to work, so he brought the whole family? I don't know if he was living in Texon, but if so, where was the cemetery used by Texon?
My G-Grandmother, Sadie Lou Atwood Boland, had a very limited memory of her childhood.
I would love any info on this family, but I am especially interested in finding the grave sites for both William Rogers Atwood and his wife Mary Alice Costlow.

Not much else to tell about her, but she was called Little Eddie and she got sick. Her father carried a locket with her picture on him every day of his life until he died.

Hello,

This may be too late and you have all of this information already and probably then some. But in any case:

Catherine Winifred O'Bryan was my 2nd Great Grandmother.

I have a copy of a Genealogical Study done by GrandUncle Nicholas William Arnold, Jr.

In it are about 9 pages devoted to the Warwick(Wardick) / O'Bryan(O'Brien) Line; Below is info from that study:

James William O'Bryan and his wife Mary Ann Wardick had 4 children: #1 Elizabeth Ann O'Bryan (1852-1892) / #2 James William O'Bryan (1854-1935) / #3 Catherine Winifred O'Bryan (1856-1936) / #4 John Bernial O'Bryan (1860-1946)

#1 never married and is said to be buried in Brady, TX (her mother Mary Ann Wardick is said to be buried in Brady, TX too where her son John B lived...AND her father, Michael James Wardick (1798-1890; I believe an obit you found says he lived to 104 though..which would put the year @1902) is said to be buried in Brady, TX as well where his grandson John B lived)

#2 is your "Uncle Jimmy" and married Suzanne Williams and had 3 children that I know of so far: John B O'Bryan (who married Mona Brooks) / Willie (or perhaps Billie) (a girl) who married George Weir / Eddie (a girl) who is said to have died as a small child and is buried in Rankin, TX

James is said to be buried in Rankin, TX

#3 did indeed marry Henry Angerstein (my link to the line is through this child of which i have a lot more details)

#4 born 3 months after his father's death and married Julia McGrew; and that no children were born to this union; both buried in Brady, TX

James William, husband of Mary Ann Wardick, father of above 4 children, is said to have died in Galveston TX about 3 months before John's birth (which puts that about Oct 1859 as John was born jan 25 1860 (was listed as 6/12 on July 1860 census with his siblings and grandfather); his death certif states 1859 as the birth year though

Attached is John B O'Bryan's Death Certificate from FamilySearch site as well as his brother's (James aka "Uncle Jimmy")

The John that died June 18, 1950 was son of James William (Uncle Jimmy) and Suzanne Williams (his Death Certif attached as well)

So the info provided in the other post are dates for John OBryan (1884-1950) son of James W OBryan & Suzannne Williams, James being the son of James W OBryan & Mary Ann Wardick.

I myself am still in the process of researching the Angerstein / Arnold / Wardick(Warwick) / O'Bryan(O'Brien) Lines.

I can provide you with a Register for James W O'Bryan on down if you'd like. If you have any additonal sourced info for the line (obits / pics etc) I'd be interested to compare our research

HTH
Edie

I did obtain a death certificate for William Henry Dooley which indicates he is died on May 6, 1932 and was buried in Big Lake, Texas on May 7, 1932, but I have not been able to find an obituary. He is not listed in the Glenrest Cemetery listing on the Texas Tombstone Transcription Project. I would appreciate any information you might run across. Thanks for replying to my query.

Our local newspaper is a weekly paper. The local library has
the older copies on their computer. In looking at 1932, however, I find that May 6 was the last copy for the year on
the computer. Some of the old microfilm from which these
were taken is just unreadable. There was nothing in the
May 6 copy about your person. I suggest you contact the
San Angelo Standard Times of San Angelo, Tx., which is the
most read area daily paper, there may be an obit in their
paper.

He died June 18,1950 Reagan County Texas and had lived in that area for many years
he had a son James William , that was known as Uncle Jimmy all his life and a daughter Katherine Winfred , b 1856 who married a Henry Angerstein.
I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. On 12 Nov 1926 Reagan County Constable George HAYS, 45, ejected Billie COATS, 34, from a dance at Best. COATS returned and shot HAYS and Miss Alva BEAM, 19, to death. COATS escaped. HAYS was reported to have been survived by his wife and son, Ray. HAYS was reported to have worked for 20 years as general manager at West Texas ranches of J. D. SUGG. I am searching for any surviving family, HAYS' place of burial, date of birth, and any disposition as to whether COATS was captured or prosecuted.

Thanks for your reply. Elizebeth Jackson was the sister of Samuel. She married my great grandfather John Thomas Martin. My grandmother Fannie Martin married James Keeney in Erath County. I have a picture taken in the 1950's at Stephenville City Park at the Jackson renunion. I am 60 yrs. old but can remember going there and playing with the "cousins". Your husband may remember the Keeney family. My uncle Roy Keeney who is 95 remembers almost everything about the Jackson family. My other Uncle Whit is also living. You might ask your husband if he remembers this side of the family. Thanks for your answers. Where do you live?

Linda,
I was browsing the Reagan Co. ancestry community website and noticed the query about Pat, Wren, Mark and Dick Jackson. These brothers relocated from Erath Co., Tx to western Texas in the 1900's. My husband is Charles Jackson, the only son of Dick Jackson and a nephew of Pat, Wren, Mark, Pearl, Joe and Will. The two sisters of the 6 brothers were Maud and Mable. So I think that the Elizabeth or Betty that you have mentioned as being a sister might have been a cousin. The above mentioned men and women's father and mother were Samuel Andrew and Emma (Hurt) Jackson. Samuel Andrew came to Texas from Tennessee. Hope this helps in your search.
I am so glad you responded. I have a book that a cousin wrote called "Roots and Twigs" that is entirely about the Coates family. I'll get it out and do some research for you. I don't remember a Wayne Coates, but my Uncle P.H. had a son named Steve Wayne and he may have been named after your uncle. My father is the son of one of P.H. and Sicily's daughters and I think the ranch you are talking about is the one he grew up on. I'll find the book and see what I can find out for you.
Later,
Lorri

I am looking for information on a great uncle by the name of
John Quitman Reagan/Ragan aka:Quit.... He was born in
Mo. about 1864, but lived most of his life in Texas. He was
raised in Hunt county. but later lived around Ft. Worth. He
played the fiddle around Texas and Oklahoma. I have heard
that he may still have relatives around Ft. Worth and Grape-
vine. The Ragan/Reagan family has lost touch with his line
of the family and would love to make contact again. Any
information would be greatly appreciated.
Rex Ragan

Reagan County Class 1952

I graduated from Reagan County High in 1952. On the morning of Oct. 17 I will be in Big Lake for the first time in almost 50 years. I wonder if any of my classmates still live there. Some of my classmates were Marinell Cartwright, Joyce Jacobs, Nona Lackey, Franzella Sharp, Richard Daily, Billy Cutbirth, Donald Barber--there were 31 in the Senior Class.
If someone could give me the email address of the local newspaper I would be grateful.
One thing my brother and I plan to do is find the house we lived in, on a lease east of Big Lake. You turned off of Hwy 62 where the Carbon Black Plant was (this landmark is gone).

I am descended from Santiago Acosta, who lived in San Angelo, Texas most of his life. If you have any reason to believe he is related to Jesse Acosta, please write to me.
We know practically nothing about his life prior to his marriage, except he worked on the Broome ranch. We would like to find his family.

I lived at Kemper Station in the late 40's. If your relatives are buried in Reagan County, most likely they are buried in Big Lake's Glenrest Cemetery. The cemetery is owned by the county, and the burial records are maintained by the county clerk at the court house in Big Lake.
