I am searching for details of an early Red River Co. murder. Mrs. Clarence Smith (maiden name was Mae Hobbs..she was originally from OK) was shot in the back in a dispute over pecans in her front yard. A wagonload of black people were picking up the pecans; Mrs. Smith ordered them to leave. When she turned to go into the house, she was shot in the back by a fourteen-year-old girl in the wagon. According to family legend the girl escaped into OK and was never apprehended. Mrs. Smith left behind two children, Wesley and Luda, ages 12 and 14. The incident happened around 1920-1921 in the Lane's Chapel area. I would appreciate any information on the murder or on Lane's Chapel community or cemetery. Mary
