Did you contact the people responsible for establishing and maintaining the findagrave memorial? Perhaps they are privy to death info? If he died, 1910, in Texas and was returned to Alabama there probably will not be an official record? Texas mandated vital records effective 1903 but compliance lagged for several decades thereafter. Via daily research, I'm aware of a few people who died as late as 1950s but do not have certificates. Also, there are partial pedigrees on him that are viewable on https://familysearch.org/ Simply search Seabolt deaths in 1910 Alabama. At the bottom of the page, access user submitted family tree info. One final question? Who was the daughter identified as Elmira M. in 1880 Cherokee, GA? She's missing from 1870 Lumpkin, GA. The "old man" married Jane 30 Aug 1868 therefore she was mother of Fanny, Ellen, Sarah, and Charlies? Oops, that's a second question.(lol) I'd appreciate an invite to your tree eventhough I'm not related?

It is possible that Kaney went back to Alabama to die.
I have been to this grave at Black Creek Baptist Church. There is no headstone but there is a space next to the grave of Kaney's second wife. I can't tell if there is anyone buried there. I have not been able to locate records in either Texas or Alabama to determine when and where he died.
Yes, his first and second wives were sisters.

Thank you for this terrific information. This will help fill-in my family tree. These people are 1st and 2nd generation after the original Kaney Seabolt (1826- ). The original Kaney had a son also called Kaney and most of these people are the family of this son. This information is all very much appreciated.

Lowe Ranzie Futrell and Ide Belle Rayborn (Rayburn) were my great grandparents. Their son Joseph Willie Futrell and Lois Mable Waldrip were my grandparents by their daughter Ava (living)who married my father, James Clifford Norred. They lived in Rockwall and Kaufman counties. James Lowe was from Tennessee.

Joseph Wilie's first wife was Liela McVay. I have seen Liela spelled Lia and Lila but my mother assures me it was Liela. Very little is known of her. They had three children. James Lowe 1915, Amedrith 1916, And Allegra in 1919. Liela died during this last birth. I have Joseph Willie on the 1920 census living on the family farm with his father, widowed with the three children at age 23.

Joseph Willie remarried in 1922? To Lois Mable Waldrip born 1900. The Waldrip family were share croppers on my g grandfathers land.

Anyone doing research along these family lines? If so please contact me.

Sincerely,
James C. Norred

Why did ancestors stay only a short time in Rockwall county?

Several of the lines of my family tree came to Rockwall County and show up there for the first time on
the 1880 census. By the 1900 census, all of my ancestors have left Rockwall County and re-settled in Van Zandt County. If it were only one of my ancestors, I wouldn't think it odd, but there are five different relatives who made the move. Does anyone know what drew these folks to Rockwall County pre-1880? What would prompt so many to move to Van Zandt County?

Texas mandated vital records reporting effective 1903. Unless their births were filed as "delayed" you probably will not find documentation.

They lived in the Blackland, Tx area and Royse City area of Texas.

I found my grandfather in 1900 listed with 7 of his 9 children as a widower. Then in 1910 he remarried a Mynervia or Menywin and 5 of his children were still living at home with him and his new wife.

My grandfather died in Royse City Tx in Nov of 1918. But I have not been able to locate my Grandfather Zim with my Grandmother Lovenia in the 1880 census.

Nor have I been able to locate the birth records for their 9 children who were born in the Rockwall Co. area and the oldest child Rosa was born abt 1880. I found Rosa living near her father in the 1900 Census.

Both my grandparents died and are buried in the Blackland Cemetery and Royse City Cemetery after having lived there for about 30 plus yrs. My grandfather was a farmer.

I have not been able to locate a marriage license for my grandfather Zim Lewis and his 2nd wife Minervia or Menywin who were married in Rockwall Co also abt 1903.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Sandy,
Saw your post from 2006 on Julius Wells. He was my GGG Grandfather thru his daughter Mary Elizabeth Wells who married James Christopher Thompson. Julius was married three times, lastly to Mary Esther Randall McFarland 8/20/1862 in Rolla, Phelps Co., Mo. They were on the 1870 Census for Texas Co., Mo. Mary's daughter by previous marriage is listed as Chris McFarland age 12.

They moved to Texas after 1870. Some of his brothers also relocated to Texas.

Where did you find his death date? I would like to find where he is buried.

I will share info. Hopefully you are still checking this forum. Waiting to hear from you.

Lana
Salem, Mo.

United Confederate Veterans camp in Rockwall County

I finally received a copy today from Texas Tech University concerning a "descriptive list" from the Robert E. Lee Camp 158, United Confederate Veterans, dated May 4, 1907 for my great-great-uncle Crockett Boone.
Uncle Crockett states that he was "adjutant of the Mason County, Texas encampment, colonel and aide-de-camp on Gen. Ross' staff, and captain of the state encampment at Rockwall County, Texas."
I assume that means he was an officer in the UCV camps in Mason County and Rockwall County prior to joining the Fort Worth Camp in 1907. Does anyone know of any records that exist concerning the United Confederate Veterans camp in Rockwall County.
It is my understanding that a person who was the head of the UCV in a certain state was called the General. I believe when Gov. Sul Ross, also a confederate general, was head of the Texas UCV in 1893-96 or so, that Crockett Boone was a colonel on his UCV staff. In his obit, it states that Crockett Boone was "made a UCV colonel under Gen. Ross."

GARNER-North Texas Area-Dallas, Denton, and Rockwall Counties (1880-present)

I’m interested in exchanging information about the children/descendants of the George Washington Garner (1827-1874)/Mary Jane Cosby group. This family lived in Franklin Co., GA/Etowah Co., AL until the early deaths of George and Mary. Then the younger children were split up to live with various relatives. Their names were:

Thomas Pleasant Garner-(1849-1870)
Robert Cosby Garner (1853-1927)-settled in north Texas
George Johnston Garner (1860-1925)-settled in north Texas
Sidney B. Garner-(1861)
Henry Franklin Garner (1863-1940)-settled in “Indian Country” but visited in north Texas
Sarah Margaret Garner-(1865-)
David Barto Garner-(1867-1919)-settled in north Texas
Bethel Holly Garner-(1869-1956)-came to Texas and then went back to MS

It appears that those that came to Texas arrived between 1880-1900 and settled mostly in Rockwall, Royse City, and Sanger. Their descendants spread out to at least the Denton and Dallas area.

I’d love to share information and photos.

Beth Randall
bethran@tx.rr.com
Thank you for the info on Annie Manson Mclendon. I believe this is the Annie I am looking for. Several facts fit. I am trying now, to find the connection between Annie, her parents and Henry "Hal" Manson. All these people were living in Rockwall, Texas during the same period. Annie names her son Hal Manson. I find no Manson surnames in either of Annie Parents. Both Annie's father and Hal served in the civil war. Hal was a medic. I do not know if Annie father was in the same regiment or were in union prisons together. If you have any info that might help please advise, Thank you again, Laura

My grandfather was Will. Elmira was buried somewhere close to the banks of the Trinity river in Dallas. All PaPa could remember is that his dad and some man went over a hill and buried her. He tried in later years to find her grave with no success. I have not been able to find any info on her although I know they were married in 1891 in Rockwall. I have a picture of Jake, Elmira and my grandfather (he was actually the eldest).

No. Unfortunately it just says Tenn. And I think you're probably right. What I need is buried in some dusty courthouse basement somewhere in Tennessee and it's highly unlikely that I will ever be able to get there to dig through those records. I have been searching for a long time with no luck... but there's only so much you can find on the internet.

Then what you seek will probably be written in probate records, wills, or a famiy bible? Thomas Gibson died before age 40 and probably did not accumulate property? That eliminates probate/will! Perhaps death certificates of his siblings will reveal the names of their parents? Does Isom's death certificate identify the Tennessee County of his birth?

Not an intrusion at all !!! And thank you for your reply. I know Sharon and have her website linked. She's my cousin. :-) I have the census records but still there is no actual proof that the boy listed on the census records is actually our Isom. Granted its very likely they are... but I would really like to have more concrete proof if I can possibly find it. I do have them listed as the parents on my own family tree but I really need and want more than a census record to show accuracy of my records. And it was my error before. I said Robert but meant Thomas. Too many names going through my head these days. LOL

That is supported by census data. Her tree is missing census years 1860 and 1870. No problem! Find the family in 1860 TN-Washington-Hoggards-Image 12 and 1870 TN-Greene-District 17-Image 24.

Hi Laura. My grandfather (who was born in Happy Home) was Jesse Lee Gibson. His father was Jesse James Gibson who was also born somewhere in Rockwall. Jesse James' father was Isom Anderson Gibson who came to Rockwall from Tennessee. Isom is my brick wall on the Gibson line. I cannot find who his parents were. I have a guess but no proof... yet.

Thank you so much for replying Laura. I did stumble across that reference and have since finally located the mysterious place called Happy Home. Or at least where it used to be.
