Hi,

Joseph Ross Adams's sister, Elizabeth Caroline Adams was my 3rd great-grandmother. She married Zechariah Jacobs in 1846 in Cherokee Co., TX. They had two sons, William Basil, my 2nd great-grandfather, and James. Zechariah died before 1860, and Caroline and her children apparently lived with Joseph afterward. Basil met my 2nd great-grandmother when they were livining in Robertson Co. in the 1870s. I have no idea what happened to Caroline after 1880 (or Joseph Ross either). The area where they lived had a cemetery (Head/Ebenezer), but if they are there, their markers have been lost. I read that the cemetery was moved to a new location and some markers (but not bodies) were also moved.

I'm not sure why, but on the 1850 Cherokee Co., TX census, Caroline is listed as Martha C. Jacobs. My guess is that a neighbor gave the information to the census taker, and must have known her first name wasn't Caroline but mistakenly thought it was Martha instead of Elizabeth. The correct middle initial seams to indicate this. My 3rd great-grandfather was simply listed as Z. Jacobs.
