One can only assume that C J Knight died in Texas or Elizabeth came to Texas with other families before 1870 and C J Knight died somewhere between GA and TX 1864 - 1870.

As indicated in the 1880 & 1900 census Elizabeth's parents were from SC. Did she follow the Thompson family that was already in San Augustine county in 1850, some from SC and GA ? Looking at all possibilites. Look at the 1880 & 1870 records to see who her immediate neighbors were and where they were from.

The 1870 record indicates E J Knight had property valued $650, maybe a will or probate transfering the land to her name in records San Augustine courthouse? The 4 youngest children only ones with Elizabeth in 1880 and appears that Lewis H Knight never married.
