I heard today that a monument was erected in San Saba for a legendary local black cowboy, Abraham Galloway. I know it's a long shot, but does anybody know anything of his roots? I am writing a book on the life and times of an earlier Abraham Galloway, a fugitive slave from N.C. who rose out of slavery to become a Union spy and special agent, an extraordinary black political leader during the Civil War, and later the state's first black state senator. I have lost the trail of his family--he had 2 sons-- after 1880. I know it's a long shot, but my Abraham Galloway always acted like a cowboy--he even wore his pistol in his belt in the state senate-- and, well, I can't help wondering if maybe his grandson [?] did too. Many thanks to all you in Texas who read this. My last book, The Waterman's Song, has a chapter on the 19th-cent. Galloway, by the way. David Cecelski
