Hi,
Ii think I've come across your name in some of the genalogy materials gathered by my mother, Bina Martin May, daughter of Samuel Lee Martin and Stella Bird.

Hopefully, you're still checking in for new respondees to your note. I'm particularly interested in knowing if one or more males in this line have had the DNA testing. It would be fun to link up with someone from the UK.

Thanks for responding.

Catherine
Seattle

He will be celebrating his 100th birthday this year. Joseph Riley (Claude's Father) is my 2 great grandfather. Let me know how I can get pictures and any other info you may need to.
Thanks,
Vance Riley

Hello, I am looking for decendents of Allen and Susan Parmer who may have family photo's of the family from 1878 to 1900 or so. My G-Grandfather is George Howard he was an orphan the son of an orphan born on the 4th of July 1878, and we believe he was raised by Allen and Susan Parmer who may have been his Aunt and Uncle, or perhaps just an adoptive family. The Family of Mary Barr has a photo of My G-Grandfather and we have found hints that he lived with these Parmers as a nephew. I can supply our family photo's of George for you or any of your family members to compare. The Barr family photo has been our biggest break in finding our geneology on this line ever. It is a photo of him about 10 years before our photo's were taken but it is him as clear as day. He is even wearing the same hat. Any help would be wonderful.
(Submitter's Note: I don't know anything about the James family. I just transcribed this while looking through the 1917 newspapers for Menard County, Texas)

The Menard Messenger
Vol 10 No 13
Thursday, January 25, 1917

DEATH OF CAROLINA JAMES

Mrs. Carolina James of the Ft. McKavett community died at her home in Schleicher County, January 19th and the funeral was held the following day. The remains were buried in the Ft. McKavett cemetery, the Reverend Richard Mercer having charge of the services. Mrs. Carolina (Kordzik) James was born in 1834 in Angerburg, Germany, and came to Texas in 1859. She was married to Mr. James in 1862 and they moved to Schleicher County fifteen years ago. Five children were born to them, four boys and one girl; two of the boys are now dead. She was a member of the German Lutheran Church and her many virtues endeared her to the hearts of all who knew her. Mrs. James two nephews here, Henry and Otto VanderStucken were in attendance at the funeral.

Your father and I were nearly the same age . We used to visit Uncle John's farm in Milford , when I lived in Ennis, until about the late1940s. Sorry, I don't have any information on the Rieves side, but I have a little on the Goodwin line. Any way I can assist, let me know. lonestar117@hotmail.com

Descendants of Robert Jackson "Jack" LAMAN are seeking information on the circumstances of his death and burial in Schliecher or Menard Counties. According to the San Angelo Standard Times of June 30, 1894, Jack LAMAN was shot and killed "at 2:00 Thursday evening on the San Angelo and Ft. McKavett road, ten miles this side of Ft. McKavett. Will Simmons shot Jack LAMAN through the body 3 times. Mr. LAMAN died four hours after being shot. Mr. LAMAN's home is in San Angelo. He was a freighter and was hauling a load of ranch supplies from Schwartz and Raas to Robert Winslow's ranch when he received his death wounds." Jack LAMAN had been the principal witness against Simmons in a trial two years earlier. The family Bible says that LAMAN was buried at Ft. McKavett but the location of that grave has never been found. Family members would like to locate and mark the grave. We would appreciate any information on the incident or the location of the grave.

Marian, Thank you for responding to my query on the burial place of Robert Jackson (Jack) Laman/Lemon/Lemmons/Lehman etc in the Ft McKavett area / Schleicher County area. We have since found that the name was written many different ways. I would appreciate ANY information you could get by asking around. I'm sure it was a very interesting murder story that was recorded both in the courts and newspapers. Two years earlier Jack had testified in a court case against a Simmons who was imprisoned and vowed to get him. It is believed the Simmons eventually did kill him.

Do you know if Claude might have been known as "Pop"? I knew a Pop and Flara Riley in Eldorado in the 1970s and they are buried in Eldorado cemetery. I am traveling and will be thru there in the next few days. (My grandparents are buried there, also.) If it is daylight I will check his headstone.
