I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. On 30 June 1921 Earl W. DARBY, 20, was employed as a convict guard. He was removing his coat from his truck near Azle when a pistol in the pocket fell and discharged, striking him in the abdomen. He was transported to the hospital in Fort Worth where he died at 5:30 pm on 1 July 1921.
He was born on December 26, 1900. He was single at the time of his death. His parents were B.F. DARBY and Mary A. DARBY. His siblings were Ben L., Doyle H., and William J. DARBY. He is buried at the Smithfield Cemetery in North Richland Hills, Tarrant County, Texas.
I am searching for family members and whether he was on duty at the prison when he was wounded.
