I'm not related to this family, but what drew my attention to them was a postcard listed for sale on ebay. It is addressed to Harvey Lee Hays, Abilene, Texas, postmarked in October 1910, and reads:
"Hello! Well, I'm in Eastland all OK. It's raining but I'll go to town any way, will expect a letter real soon. From Lena Bell."
It looks like it's from "Lena Bell." I think Lena Bell would later become Harvey's wife, as they're shown living together in both the 1930 and 1940 census for Abilene.
From other records, it looks like Harvey Lee Hays was born about 1893, in Clyde, Texas and died 23 June 1969, the son of Marion Hays and Nana Hancock.
Also, from census records, it looks like Harvey and Lena Bell Hays had a son, Harvey L, Hays, Jr. born about 1922, probably in Abilene, and a daughter, Betty Jean Hays, born about 1926, also probably in Abilene.
I'm not in any way associated with the seller of this post card, and I'm posting this in hopes someone in the family will see it - so they can acquire this interesting piece of family history.
I won't give the link to the auction, but it can be easily found in this category: Collectibles/postcards/greetings, under the auction entitled: "Post card, 103 years old, used, sent from Eastland, Texas to Abilene, Texas" The auction ends on the 19th of September 2013.
