EVANT - Funeral services were Wednesday, June 30, 2004, for Zena Maud Edwards, 95, who died June 26, 2004. Burial was in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery near here (Evant).

She was the daughter of John and Bertha Whistler of Sanderson. She had two brothers, John Jefferson and Clyde Louis Whistler, the latter a lifelong Sanderson resident.

Her daughter, Annalouise Bell of Laughlin, Nevada, was a Sanderson High School graduate and her son McNeill is buried in Sanderson.

Zena married Buster Earl Edwards in 1927 and they had six children. The marriage ended in divorce.

In 1952, she married Jimmie Morris Loden and the couple reared their family of four on a farm in Coryell County.

After another divorce, Zena remarried Buster Edwards in 1978 and they lived in Valentine until his death.

She was an accomplished musician, playing the piano and singing throughout her life. She also wrote music, poetry and stories.

She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church and an active member of her community.

Zena was preceded in death by her parents, children McNeill and Thelma, husbands Jim Loden and Buster Edwards, brothers Johnnie and Clyde, grandson Jason Clark, and nephew Jack Whistler.

Other survivors include children Robert Earl and Carolyn Edwards of Kerrville, Bertha Sue Clark of Clifton, James Owen Edwards, John William Loden, Jim and Kate Edwards and John and Reta Loden, all of Hamilton, 13 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews and 19 great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Walter Edwards, Daryl Easterling, Sam McGee, Charles Gray, Eldon Chambers and Roy Bates.

Honorary pallbearers were John O. Bell, Kyle Arnold, Weldon Chambers and Keith Suggs.
