Classification: Query
Tracking the Benjamin Davis (B. c1789 GA) from Wayne Co, MS (1820-1853) to Trinity Co, TX by 1860 census. His wife was Honor. His children were: William T (B. 1829 MS); Thomas A (B. 1831 MS); Caroline (B. 1836 MS); Archibald T (B. 1839 MS- married Amanda); Eliza (B. 1841-3 MS ?possibly married James Blackshear?); Mary L (B. 1847 MS). Elizabeth (B. 1843 MS- may have been called Lizzie); & Sophia O (B. 1849 MS). Sophia & Caroline & Mary L were gone by 1860 census. This Benjamin was head of household 1860 Trinity Co, TX. He was living with his son William, for the 1870 Trinity Co, TX census. This Benjamin was actually a Benjamin JR. He was the grandson of Thomas & Mary "Polly" Davis who came from Darlington Co, SC to Wayne Co., MS by 1816. I do not know what happened to Benjamin SR, other than he may have lived in GA, since JR was born there. Sr was in no Wayne Co, MS records & Jr was only called JR in one record- 1820 Wayne Co, MS tax roll. Other than that he was Benjamin- once he was listed with middle initial W. I am not sure what happened to all of Benjamin's children. Son William was still in Trinity Co, TX for 1870- married with children. His wife was Marie; his sons were Edward (B. 1861 TX) & Jefferson (B. 1862 TX). Son, Archibald B. 1839 MS, was next to father Benjamin in 1860 census. Any leads appreciated. Any male that is willing to do DNA from this line, please contact me.
