My name is Clay Steelman and I am currently writing a book concerning the Civil War life of the 17th Texas Dismounted Cavalry. Company G of this regiment was formed in Upshur County. I am looking for any informaiton from soldier history, mustering in service, personal diary accounts, etc.
I honestly believe that the combat history of the unit is a very interesting story....from mustering into service, capture at Arkansas Post, life as a POW, and their subsequent combat life after being released. I am really looking for any personal accounts from any soldiers in the 17th Texas.
If you have any information please contact me at TxSteel54@aol.com. Thanks.
