BAILEY, Silas moved from Itawamba County, MS with his family, sons Thomas and Joseph Martin and wife, Caroline Agnes MADDOX BAILEY to Uvalde County, TX sometime after 1850. I find them in Uvalde County in 1880 -- Silas, Caroline Agnes and Thomas are living a ranch/farm next door to Joseph Martin BAILEY, his wife Martha and their children - one of whom was my great-grandfather, William Booker BAILEY. Listed with the BAILEYs is a young man, 20, widower, name William LEWIS and listed as cousin -- but to which person? Martha? Joseph Martin?? I do not know...but would like to know. :-) Census says he was born in Texas, as was Martha.
Anyway, I am trying to find out what happened to Silas and Joseph Martin BAILEY (and the rest of the family, of course) between 1880 when they are listed, and 1900 when William Booker BAILEY (son of Martha ___ and Joseph BAILEY) is shown living in Graham County, Arizona and married with a family.
There are land documents, but I don't have them - yet. Apparently Silas and Joseph BAILEY received Land patents in the 1870's (and living in Uvalde County, TX) - could anyone explain why this may have been?
