You are welcome. I have been unable to get on a local library site for 2 years to get obits for people. I spent an hour on the phone with tech support and I am now able to get to the obits back to 1998!

James Cates , 81, passed away in his Iowa Park home on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007. Services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 at 9:30 at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Hensley of Iowa Park officiating.

Born Jan. 24, 1925 in Lamesa, Texas to James Ward and Clara Alice Cates , James served in the United States Army in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes and Central Europe during the Second World War. James was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge 713 of Iowa Park and a lifetime member of VFW.

A lifetime resident of Iowa Park, he owned Cates Well Service and later Park Tire and Battery until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Iowa Park Muleskinners, kept a garden right up until the end of his life and harvested prize-winning pecans from the many trees on his place. He was an avid fisherman and an even better catfish fryer, a dish rivaled only by his holiday dressing.

James was preceded in death by both parents and many dear friends. He is survived by three daughters Linda Frazier and husband, Rick; Marye Cates ; Brenda England and husband, Bill; a sister, Joyce Short and husband, Lowell; three grandchildren, Amanda Frazier Carr and husband, Ben; Kevin Frazier and Shelbye Boren all of Iowa Park; niece Linda Marshall of Denton; nephew Jimm Givens of Dallas; cousin C.C. Anderson and wife Arlene of Garland.

Memorials can be made to the Iowa Park Muleskinners, 111 West Cash Street, Iowa Park, 76367.

The family will receive guests at the home of Rick and Linda Frazier.

IOWA PARK — Thomas E. “Gene” Owens, age 79, of Iowa Park, Texas, passed away Monday, January 12, 2009, in Wichita Falls.

A memorial service will be Friday, January 16, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Iowa Park, with Rev. John Kay, pastor, officiating. Private interment services will be in Highland Cemetery, Iowa Park, under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home of Iowa Park.

Gene was born October 8, 1929, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to W.M. and Jessie Mae George Owens. He attended schools in Electra, Texas, and graduated from W.F. George High School in Iowa Park. He married Leverne Bentley on June 3, 1951, in Electra. He was self-employed for 66 years as the owner and operator of Owens Oil Company located at Faulks Station, between Electra and Iowa Park, retiring in December 1996. He was a resident of Iowa Park for 57 years, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Iowa Park.

Survivors include his wife, Leverne Owens of Iowa Park, Texas; daughter, Linda (Diane Owens) Tokoi b. 10 Feb 1953 Wichita Co and husband, Lauri Oscar Tokoi of Houston, Texas; daughter, Karen (Denise Owens) Spruiell b. I'm trying to research my Owens line through Ida Mae Owens (1871-1952) who was supposedly the daughter of William L Owens (1835-1917). I believe Thomas Eugene 'Gene' Owens was the grandson of William L Owens. I have a copy of a letter to Gene and Laverne from 'Uncle Elmo Heard' dated 1981 touching on the Owens lineage. It appears that Gene died in 2009. Do you have any contact information for Laverne or their descendants who might be able to assist?

THE PARIS MORNING NEWS, Saturday, November 13, 1909: 'SUDDEN DEATH OF PIONEER - R. M. Thompson of Deport Calls for Children and Expires - R. M. Thompson, a Lamar County pioneer and a long time resident of Deport, familiarly known as 'Uncle Mack,' died very suddenly at his home in that town yesterday morning about 8 o'clock. Mr. Thompson had been in poor health for about a year, but his death was not expected so soon. He told Mrs. Thompson after breakfast yesterday morning to call his children, and falling over on the bed, expired without speaking another word. It was only a few minutes from the time that he made the request for his children to be called until he breathed his last. 'Uncle Mack' came to Lamar county in 1869, forty years ago. He was sixt-two years of age. His children are D. O. Thompson, a business man of Deport; Walter B. Thompson of McKinney, and Mrs. Henry Webb, who lives near Deport. Colonel Dee Thompson of this city is a cousin of deceased and left yesterday afternoon for Deport to attend the funeral. The funeral of the old pioneer will be held this morning at 10 o'clock. Pastor Joyner of the Presbyterian church at Deport will conduct the services at his church, of which Mr. Thompson was a member, and the Deport I.O.O.F. lodge, to which deceased belonged, will conduct that order's ritual at the grave.'

I read a short copy from the JET magazine in 1953,Oct1, that he was arrested for sexual related offenses. I know that he had several people,mostly females with him from Anadarko, OK. They left there around 1955,. I was told that he had them living like in a commune or one bif enclosed area for a while. I think that he was in seversl areas of Texas. The females and children which he fathered settled in Wichita Falls for the most part. The talk was that he had incestous relations with his offspring.
In the Jet article he as in Kansas City, Ks at the time.
I am very interested in his activities. It was told that the police was on his trail and he ranor they ran him out of Wichita Falls.

I am seeking information on a Roderick Brown, "preacher"
who lived for some time in Wichita Falls. He at one time had like commune, he supposedly fathered several children by varoius women of his group. I would like to know of his death and where he is buried. He was banned in some states for this kind od behavior.

William Hatten Evans born in Waxahachie, which is in Ellis County, and Mary Lou Thompson had your father in Chillicothe, Hardeman Co Texas in 1920. His birth record is available for you to download and save.

Much of the 1890 census was destroyed fire/water damage around 1921 and do not find him listed in Ellis Co 1900 or 1910 census. He was in Marshall Co OK in 1917. Wm, Mary Lou and Mildred are listed in 1920 census in Hardeman Co along with Mary Lou's parents. This county is two counties west of Wichita county and on the Oklahoma border. The Thompson's were in Marshall Co OK in 1910.

Scared? I completed one, uninterrupted, tour of duty in Viet Nam and had enough temporary duty to qualify for a second tour. Both times, I wasn't even issued a weapon! Info you seek will not be found on genealogical websites. Try the news media. There'll always be people such as Rev Jim Jones, David Koresh, Rodrick Brown, et al. I, personally, see no reason for research of their evil. I'll leave that to FBI-profilers.

Rodrick Brown (14 Mar 1909 - 9 Jun 1990) buried Leavnworth National Cemetery. He enlisted in Army during WWII, 20 May 1941, in Jacksonville, FL. His SSAN issued in Louisana prior to 1951.

Curtis pelton was my grand-father. My father was Ishamel Pelton. I was born Ishamel Duane Pelton in 1953. My mother was Janie Maxine Moore at time of their marriage. I was born with two sisters; Janice Irene and Betty Ann. My name was changed to Rutledge at age 14. I reconnected with my father and Grandad later in life. Got to know Grandad quite well in his last few years. He would come stay with me in Tyler and I would visit him in Iowa Park. Grandad passed away in 1985 and my father passed away in 1989. Burleson in Jefferson County, OK. He was Raymond P. Burleson born 30 Dec 1924 in Young County, TX. His father was Wiley G. Burleson (30 Aug 1881 - 16 Dec 1926). Lookup W G Burleson death 1926 in Texas on familysearch website. R. P.'s mom was Senith H. (Gradner) Burleson (26 Aug 1895 - 28 Jan 1971). Delbert was the informant on her certificate and that's proof we have the "right" family. Work with that while I try to locate Senith prior to marriage. Suspect her maiden name was Gardner vs Gradner?

Pedestrian vs Automobile 10/1/1953

I'm looking for information regarding a vehicle vs pedestrian accident that occurred in Wichita Falls on Oct 1, 1953. All the information I have is from the death certificate of William Martin Holzer.

Will died on December 31, 1953 at the age of 76 from injuries sustained in the accident. He was a night clerk at a motel and the death certificate says that he obtained the injuries while at work. He suffered multiple compound fractures and a head injury.

I was thinking that because of his age and the extent of injuries, something might have been written up about it in the paper. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Electra Memorial Cemetery aka Electra Cemetery (Old), Memorial Cemetery. Sign over entrance says Memorial Cemetery. Findagrave only shows Henry Clinton Stone 1908 - 1920. N of US Hwy 287 on SH 25, cemetery , on the W side of the road, N of Old Cemetery. Both buried Section I as in "Indian", lot 47. They lived in Cooke Co TX in 1940 and death certificate of J W Stone said residing in Wilbarber Co, Harrold 15 yrs. Per mapquest it is 7.33 miles between Harrold and Electra via Hwy 287. There are a little over 1,000 burials listed at findagrave.

Their daughter Myrtle Vaughn was living in Electra at 108 E Wharton when she died in 1973 at the Wilbarger Gen Hospital in Vernon and was buried in Vernon.
