I have been reading up on Wise County, Texas. It seems that they were offered land for a good price if they built a house within 3 years and filed paperwork with the state. It started out they had to pay only 50cents a acre. They did have many Indians in the area and it made some move on. I found a book online and it describes life in Wise County Texas. It is very interesting reading. Pioneer History of Wise County written by Cliff Cates in 1907. You can read it online, just google it or find it at open library.org. Hope this helps.
