Male and Female Institute is referred to as the above named school open for 10 years. Does anyone have any pictures of students who attended? I'd really like to know if there are any yearbooks for this school with William HOUSER in it. He was born in about 1873. He might have been in that school in about 1888-1892. Any help would be appreciated.
The Texas Death Index lists a John Lee and J. D. Lee both died Parker County, 7 October 1910. You need to go to the Weatherford Public Library to find an obituary and/or the story of their deaths. WPL also has some Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto papers which could also have the information. Their death certificates will be at the Parker County Court Annex on Santa Fe Street, they should also have the burial site on them. Good Luck, Evlyn Broumley

Gilbert Pit is located just west of the Brazos River Bridge on I-20. It is well marked with signs to exit. This cemetery is known as Brannon Cemetery for the 5 members of the Brandon family buried there, there are no other names represented. In 1997 there were two large unreadable stones and several native rocks with no information. This is a very large gravel operation, the road does go thru private property, but the public can use the road. The cemetery is not too far, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile, the last I was there, a fence was around it and it kinda looked like an island as they had dug. Just drive carefully and watch for the big gravel trucks. Down the road is the Hill cemetery, no Lee's buried there. The site is a few miles down river from the Brick plant. After many years have not heard of a brickyard cemetery, community is now called Bennett, not Acme. Evlyn Broumley

I do have the obituaries and they just say service will be held at milsap. I have an Uncle who said they use to cross the ladys property going to the river but he is up in yeasr now and does not remember where it is located. It has always been said it was close to the brick plant. I have written to the acme Brick company to see if they can possibily give me any information. Do you know if need to have premission to get onto property? And Who could I talk to about directions on getting to the location. I have visited many cemetaries there some are just out in the middle of peoples ranches and private property. Again I can never express my thnaks to you.

Thanks Mary

You would have to go to the court house and look at the plats. I think I would start with the plat of the Acme co 1910's and work up from there. I am very familiar with how plats are in Va. through my work there as Realtor. I would imagine that Texas is not that different. Hopefully you will find your ancestor is buried on a "platted" graveyard.

I have not gone to the court house here in W'ford, yet, to look at their plats, as I have lived here only about two years. I am going to have to be familiar with the court house soon as I am going to be helping with the local history and genealogy society as a volunteer and I need to become familiar with our court house. This is why I asked everyone about their surnames here in Parker.

You can email me and maybe we can meet there sometime and I'll show you how I would look through plats. It would give me a reason to visit the courthouse and may help you out, if it is platted.

Before you go on your own or if you want to meet, if it were me, I would make certain I knew he was buried there. Does his obituary say where he was buried? Do you have any old photographs of his grave? You mentioned that he died at work. Are there company records you could obtain and see where he is buried from them, if he did not have an obit.?

I found my Confederate G-G-G grandfather's burial proof by his obituary in the Lexington Virginia Gazette newspaper March of 1889. Remember, I told you he one of the ones UNDER the church, near Lexington, Va! I now have proof to mark his grave.

Just let me know if I can help.

Mary

I will find out what they have for your ancestor and let you know what I find out.
Are you local?
Where are you located?
I am currently trying to place a marker for one of my confederated grandfathers in Virginia that has no marker and is now buried under the church's recent addition! Pearl died on January 14, 1990 in Weatherford. I am trying to find Pearl's ancestry. Does anyone know where she was from or who her parents were.

I suspect she may be from Maryland.

Hi Elissa!

Carol Elizabeth Graham must be your mom. Shoot me an email, and we'll compare notes. Wooley family history is pretty extensive. And the Bowdens, Howells, etc. all intermarried.

I have a letter from Netholyn in my records from the late 1970s... my first attempts at genealogy. She enclosed a photocopy of pp. 228-229 of "The Double Log Cabin, a History of Parker County."

Strong circumstantial evidence now indicates Mae Hines doctored daughter Margaret's 1919 birth certificate in Paris, Texas, so as to avoid powerful stigma of her illegitimate birth.

Love letters written by K.B. to Mae 40 years later, (which were in Mae's possession at time of death in early 1980s) put them together in Mineral Wells in 1918 in passionate embrace. I'm convinced K.B. is my great-grandfather (by blood in 1919 as Margaret's birth father, not just by marriage in early 1960s (when K.B. and Mae had outlived their respective spouses, and finally married, enjoying nearly 20 years together til K.B.'s death in 1979.

My only question is why K.B. didn't make an honest woman out of Mae in 1918/1919 prior to their daughter's birth, rather than waiting another 40 years. My guess is K.B. was either already married to Clara Holsombake (Mae's cousin), or perhaps dating or engaged. Still researching timing of K.B. & Clara's marriage there. They never had any kids, and Clara died around 1960. Netholyn may have been able to help fill in blanks, but I'm sure she's passed by now.

You'll love this...

In the 1970s as a boy, I was interviewing great-grandmother Mae and husband K.B. at their home in Dallas re: family history. Mae was ducking and weaving, doing her best to obfuscate daughter Margaret's fatherhood. (Margaret died under tragic circumstances in 1949, orphaning daughter Madeleine). I asked how long Mae & K.B. had known each other (of course, not having seen his eloquent love letters to her, referencing their 1918 Mineral Wells daliance).

They said, "Oh, we know each other from WAY back."

"Way back, as in WWI timeframe?" I asked.

"Yes, around then." they replied.

"I bet K.B. is my great-grandfather!" I quite innocently blurted out.

You could have heard a pin drop.

Here is the latest conclusion, based on K.B.'s WWI Draft Registration Card, 1920 Census, love letters, and Margaret Lee Eversole's birth certificate.

Mid-1917, K.B. is single, employed as salesman, and living in Mineral Wells, TX, location of 1918 romance with Mae. We know that by 19 April 1920 (Census) he was married to Clara, living and working in Muskogee, OK. My conclusion is, he was dating Clara in 1917, but living away from her. Clara and Mae were cousins, both from Farmersville, TX. (Based on love letters), Mae would have to visit K.B. in Mineral Wells sometime during 1918. Daughter Margaret was born 8 April 1919. The name Eversole was borrowed from Jewel Eversole, almost certainly unbeknownst to him, listed on Margaret's birth certificate in Paris, TX to avoid tag of illegitimate.

The only missing link, which might explain K.B.'s decision not to marry Mae in 1918/1919, is the date of his marriage to Clara. We know this occured before mid-1920 (Census). If this had occurred after mid-1917 (Draft Card), but before Margaret's birth (April 1919), then that would explain how K.B. was unavailable for marriage then to Mae.

It's poetic that they reunited 40 years later and lived out their sunset years together. It's a combination of destiny that I happened upon the love letters, and sheer luck that I made the connection of K.B. as my great-grandfather. It's been a 90-year-old cold case file, since then.

Of all the people I've ever known, great-grandparents K.B. and Mae rank as my most loved and respected. The world couldn't have asked for 2 finer people. I'm truly privileged to have known them, and to include them in my family tree!

lee burial site

I am looking for my great grandfathers burial site. His name was John Lee and he was killed in an accident at acme brick plant in 1910. He also had a brother that died in the same accident J.D. Lee. It has been said that he was buried not far from the brick plant in a cemetary that used to be called the old brick yard cemetary along with his brother. Some say it is on private property. It is supposed to be marked with a petrefied wood with the initials J L branded into it. It is also Supposed to close to the river. Any information would be greatly appreciated. My family would like to put an appropraite maker on this site. I tried going through the funeral home for information but they say that they did away with those records.

Thank You

The Weatherford Public Library might be able to help you. There should be some newspapers for 1927. Write to them at 1014 Charles St., Weatherford TX 76086. Or call at 817-598-4150, ask for Reference and ask about the fee. I don't know what they charge now. Evlyn Broumley

I can add some info to your Wooley family, my grandmother, Mary Bell Norris Wiley, referred to them as aunt and uncle, but this was titles of respect, they were neighbors. Elijah Myers Wooley is still in Taney Co., MO in 1850, HH #254 as E. M. 28 MO; E.24 Tenn, H.4 MO (Thomas Howard); E. 2 MO,(Harriet Emeline), E,. 6/12 MO., also a D. M. Wooley,16 male MO. I am sorry to say that the info used in Double Log Cabin is greatly embellished, and then repeated on Thomas' obituary. On the 1867-69 Voter's Registration of Parker County, Elijah M. Wooley states he has been in Texas and Parker County for 10 years, born MO. In the Parker County Pioneer Assc. Minute Book,(1890s) Thomas Howard states he was born in Stone Co.MO 20 Aug. 1845, came to Texas March 1859, came to Parker County May 1859, lives in Weatherford. Elijah and Sarah are both buried in the Harmony Cemetery, about 5 miles south of Weatherford, his dates: 20 Oct.1819-14 March 1883, Sarah's 3 July 1828- 3 Jan. 1895. I do not have anything on Kline, but Mary Ann Brickley Wooley's obit has she was the daughter of William Brickley.
