Wow. These are fantastic links. I'd heard of the sheriff/ constable jobs from the late Leslie Ratliff, but had no concrete evidence. I'm just gobsmacked by all this new information.

I am currently writing a biography of RM with another great-grand-child, Bonnie Snow. Maybe you know her. Anyway, we have just finished a second draft of the bio. She has provided most of the info and has been invaluable. I can fill in some of the gaps over here. (My family has only moved about 8 miles since Robert left in the 1880s!)
