His name was Edward Allen Hood. Sounds like the newspapers got the middle initial wrong.

WRECK IS DEAD
Rockford, Ill. July 7—
John O. Houck, 23. San Francisco, died Friday night In a hospital here, sixth
death In a freight wreck on the Chicago. Milwaukee and St. Paul railroad at Falrdale, III., Thursday night.
A seventh death is expected, E. R. Hood, 20. Magna, Utah, suffering
from a fractured skull and amputated leg, is not expected to live.

ROCKFORD. 1ll. July 7.—
John 0. Houck, 23. San Francisco, died
in a hospital here, the sixth death resulting from a freight train
wreck, on a Chicago Milwaukee & St. Paul railroad at Fairdale Thursday
night.
A seventh death is expected, E. R. Hood, 20. Magna, Utah, suffering
from a fractured skull and amputated leg, is not expected to live.
Eight others in hospitals here will recover. An unidentified man died this morning.

THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, TUESDAY MORNING, JULY 10, 1923
Salt Lake Youth Killed in Wreck
At Rockford, 1ll.
Edward Allen Hood, I8 years of age, and son of Middleton Hood and Lucretia Hood, 771 South Eighth West street, was killed in a train wreck at Rockford, Ill., Sunday night.
Word of the tragedy was received yesterday afternoon by Mr. & Mrs. Hood.
The body will be brought to Salt Lake for burial. No details of the cause
of death have been received.
Edward Allen Hood was born at Salt Lake and received his education, in the schools of this city. For a time he worked as Western Union messenger at San Francisco, but returned to Salt Lake some time ago to live. He left Salt
Lake three weeks ago for the East.
The news of his death was the first his parents had heard about him since
he left home this time. He Is survived by his parents, three brothers, Nephi,
Clarence and Richard Hood, and four sisters, Lucille, Clara, Virginia and Florence.
