I would appreciate knowing which parishes have been searched. I am thinking about hiring a friend of mine who is a British researcher to do some work on the Clarks, and knowing what has already been searched will help.
On Ancestral File on familysearch.org the father of Thomas Henry is shown as Thomas Clark (Probert). This means that there is doubt about the proper surname. It is my understanding that when Clark family members did research in the parishes, they couldn't find Thomas Clark, but did find a Thomas Probert. They thought that perhaps an error was made in the parish records and that the recorder heard "Clark" when the Probert man gave his profession ("clerk") and that is how the name got changed. That sounds fishy to me. I do extraction work, and in the English records I've extracted, the local priest writes the record and there is not much room for anything like a profession. Anyway, it is a puzzle and I would appreciate any help you can give me.
