Lewis HIRSCH, born 1806-1808 in Germany, and wife Ellen, born about 1820 in New York, are found in Ripton, Addison Co, VT in 1870 (Ancestry transcribed surname as HURSH) and in District 17, Salisbury, Addison Co, VT in 1880 (Ancestry transcribed surname as KIRSCH).
I found the following family in Manchester, Allegheny Co, PA in 1850: Lewis HERSH, age 42, born in Germany, with wife Anne, age 30, born in New Jersey, and children Adaline, age 15, born in New Jersey; Catherine, age 13 born in Vermont; William, age 11, born in Vermont; and Jane, age 4 months, born in New Jersey. I do not know where in Vermont the two children were born.
I am trying to find out what happened to the daughter Adaline. I believe that she may have married a HOLMES in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co, PA about 1855 and divorced in Allegheny Co, PA in 1858. I have not been able to find a subsequent marriage for her, nor can I find an ideal candidate for her on the census. I also can not find the 1850 family in 1860 census. I am hoping that the Lewis HERSH of 1850 is the same Lewis HIRSCH of 1870 & 1880 and that Adaline may have stayed near her father.
