On Wednesday afternoon, John Sharp Sr., proprietor of a ranch about 12 miles from Marysville, on Bear River, was shot and killed instantly by a man named Sullivan. The deceased has just reached home after a visit to the city, and discovered Sullivan cutting his timber.
The former remonstrated with the intruder on impropriety of his conduct, when Sullivan took up his gun, loaded with six bullets, and deliberately fired at a few yards distance, sending the entire charge into the person of Mr. Sharp. Sullivan fled but was afterwards arrested and lodged in jail.
Mr. Sharp was one of the most respected citizens of Yuba county.
