CAVICCHI Relatives in Burlington Dec 1897 ~~ HELP, Please!

I need some help trying to find a relation to Ercole CAVICCHI and his wife Elmina nee POLIQUIN with but the scantest of information to go on.

It may not be possible however someone here or on the list this post gateways to, may know the information I seek or have some search suggestions. I am located 4 hours/ 2 states away from Burlington so an in person search is not possible.

I don't know the parents of Ercole however Ercole's place of birth is given as Italy. And, in looking at the Ancestry databases and Googling "Cavicchi" I have found individuals - mostly contemporary - of the CAVICCHI surname in VT in Plymouth, Charleston, Windsor, Brownsville, Dorset, Arlington, Springfield, etc. so I speculate that the "aunt" mentioned in the article below might be on Ercole's side rather than a relation to his wife Elmina.

Elmina's parents were Benjamin POLIQUIN & Clarisse ROGER. The family was originally from Lévis, Québec but by this time had emigrated to North Providence, Rhode Island.

Ercole & family lived just over in Plattsburg, NY during the time involved. I have found a newspaper article from the Plattsburgh Sentinel, 17 Dec 1897 ---

http://news2.nnyln.net/plattsburgh-sentinel/1897/plattsburgh...

--- regarding the twin boys, Roland & Roy b. 28 Nov 1894 Plattsburgh, NY, of Ercole & Elmina. Unfortunately, it is maddeningly vague. All it says is this:

" - The little three year old son of E. Cavicchi of Plattsburgh, while playing about the house of his aunt in Burlington Tuesday, found a bottle of carbolic acid and swallowed some of the deadly poison. After drinking the acid, the little fellow ran to his aunt crying for water. she soon discovered what had happened and gave the child some milk as an antidote until she could send to a drug store for medicine. The boy was very sick, but fortunately had not swallowed enough poison to kill him. Mr. Cavicchi took the little twin boys to Burlington Monday to stay with their aunt."

Vague....Which of the twins - Roy or Roland?

But much more importantly, who was the aunt mentioned in the article??

Any suggestions as to how to find an identification?
Is anyone researching a family in Burlington in the 1897 time frame that contains the surnames CAVICCHI or POLIQUIN, possibly ROGER that could be connected to this?

Thanks for any help.

Stone Families in Hinesburg, Vermont

In the 1810 Census records for Hinesburg, Chittenden, Vermont I found: Ebenezer Stone, Ebn'r Stone jr. and Joshua Stone.
In the 1820 Census only Ebenezer Stone Jr. (based on the ages) and Joshua Stone are found. Joshua's wife may have died between 1810 and 1820, as the oldest female is either an older daughter or a second, younger wife.
Does anyone have information on these families? The names suggest they are related to Stones that settled in York County, New Brunswick, Canada. Some Stones originally in New Brunswick apparently went elsewhere.

Need LookUp Land Records - Underhill for Hawkins

I am in need of a researcher or volunteer to look up land records for the town of Underhill 1842 to 1847.
The information I have is that:
William S. Hawkins lived in the Underhill Flats area where most of the businesses were. He was taxed on 1/2 acre of land.
He was also mentioned as the lawyer for the town auditors accounts and was listed in a book of census records at the town clerks which noted those persons living in town who were not counted for some reason on the 1840 census.
What I really would like is a copy of the Land Purchase and Sale. Names of witnesses to the purchase and sale if copies are not available. If that is not possible, anything else that may have his entire name spelled out, i.e. what did the "S" stand for in his middle name.
I would reimburse for expenses and time.
Please let me know if anyone can do this for me.
Best regards,
Loretta
Sheon family of Burlington?

I`m looking for the family of Charles John Sheon (b. 11 Nov 1858), who moved to Michigan in the late 1870s/early 1880`s. The name might possibly have been spelled "Sheehan" which was changed later to "Sheon", but I`m not sure.

His parents were born in either Ireland or Northern Ireland (family story goes that we have roots in County Down). He settled down and married in Muskegon, MI, and died in 1927 in South Bend, Indiana. He is buried with his wife Catherine Sullivan in Muskegon.

Does this surname ring a bell with anyone? Thank you for your time.

I am looking for info on the Royale Grill in Burlington, it was run by a Jesse Jones in 1939-. It was once known as Quarters. It then became The new Royale Grill. I was hoping for a picture or wondered if the building still stood.
Thank you,Karen

Gilbert Nelson

I am searching for Gilbert Loren Nelson. In the 1820 census of Huntington, there is a Gilbert Nelson. Does anyone have information about him? My 3rd g-grandfather was Gilbert Nelson. From information gathered from another person, Gilbert was married in Vermont and left his family (wife and children) went to Genesee County, New York and started a new family. I am descended from a child of this "new" family. Gilbert was bn bet 1791 and 1798. Any help would be appreciated.

More burials added to St. Mary's Cemetery in Richmond, Vermont

More burials have been added to St. Mary's Cemetery in Richmond, Vermont. There is "two sections" to this cemetery, the lower part is mainly all Irish Catholic and the upper section which is fairly hidden from below, has about 43 burials still readable that appear to be all the French Catholics. I have noted in the bio section on each of these burials that they are located in the upper section.

Cemetery is in good condition.

The bulk of the Irish section was added back in Aug 2006 by Tina Stiles, but she had no photos added.
Research Trip

Hi All,
A friend and I are planning a research trip to Vermont in June and are looking for any help that any Vermonters are willing to share. We will be flying into Burlington and will spend a couple of days there as one of the counties I am researching is Chittenden. From there, we will make our way down doing research in Orange, Windsor, and Windham counties. We need suggestions on places to stay that are clean, reasonable and also have internet connection. Also, places to eat. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Also, any suggestions on research tactics would help. As we understand it, all of the older records can only be found at the town level. Is it worth our while to go to the Vermont Historical Society’s library in Barre? Do they have microfilm of the older records? We are both looking at the late 1700s and early 1800s. We are used to doing research at county seats that have all of the county information. Again, any suggestions will be appreciated.

What can we expect of the weather in June? We are from OK and TX and have never been to VT before. We are definitely looking forward to this trip.

In a nutshell – HELP!

Thanks in advance, Nancy
nguziec@tx.rr.com
Napoleon Proctor (1814-1890)

I was hoping to see if any relatives of Napoleon Proctor were out there. Napoleon married Nancy Goodrich in 1835. They had Anna(1836), Lydia(1838) and Henry(1842). My interest is in his sister Harriet Proctor(1808). She married John Flanders and was living in Essex Co, NY with her family. Napoleon was a famous steamboat captain and there is an article in the New York Historical Newspaper site refering to him giving a gift to his newphew, Ira Flanders. I was hoping to find Napoleon and Harriets parents. Thanks so much, Ronnie

Source is "State of Vermont Roster of Soldiers in the War of 1812-14, prepared and published under direction of Hubert T Johnson, The Adjutant General, 1933, page 34.

Is this the same Isaiah?

VT Chronicle Index shows a death in 1832 for Isaiah Preston of Richmond. Who is he?

Did some of this Preston family make their way to Lenawee, Michigan?

I was looking through findagrave when I found a picture someone submitted of a tombstone for Lawrence Hayes. Amongst the names was James E. Hayes.

I suspect that this guy is my great grandfather but I really have no idea who to go to in order to find more information about James. I need to find out if this is the same guy who married my great grandmother, Dorothy Wood, before divorcing her. I don't know how to go about doing that though.

Who do I contact to find records on this man?

Allens, Thompsons of Chittenden County, VT ca 1763-1855

Clarissa Allen, said to be a relative of Ethan Allen, was born 1765 in VT- perhaps a descendant of Samuel Allen (b. 5 Jan 1665 Northampton, Hampshire, MA). I believe Ethan Allen and brothers went to Chittenden County in 1763, perhaps a cousin went also? Clarissa married Samuel Thompson (born 1765 in Essex, Chittenden, VT) in Vermont. Samuel Thompson II was born 4 May 1802 Essex, Chittenden, VT; and Royal Thompson was born 5 May 1806 Essex, Chittenden, VT. In 1864, Clarissa and Samuel Thompson's daughter Lavina Thompson Crampton sent her oldest son George Willard Crampton with another of her children to live with relatives (Thompsons or Allens?) in Burlington for a short time. This was at the death of her husband Carmi Crampton. I am hoping to hear from anyone with information about these people, our family members.
