Not sure if she remarried since she was only 30 when her husband, George passed away.
Information on George Allen Family in Maidstone

I have been looking for information on George and Esther Allen, who show up in the 1860 census in Orleans, CT, Brownington, VT but do not show up in any other US census after that. A marriage certificate for Edgar Allen b. 1863 indicates that he was born in Maidstone, VT.
I cannot find this family in Maidstone in 1870 or in any other US census after 1860. The 1860 census indicates that George Allen was born in 1830 in England and his wife Esther was born in 1833 in Canada, but the marriage certificate says New Hampshire. Their children are as follows:

Emily b.1851
Martha b. 1855
George E. b. 1853
Edgar L. b. 1863 (my g.grandfather who married Lizzie Beattie in Massachusetts)
Flora(?), Floria(?) b.1859 can't read name too well on this census.

The 1860 census also indicates that all the children were born in VT and that George owned property and was a farmer. If anyone has any information that would help me to figure out what happened to the family or vital statistic information, I would appreciate it. If the information on the marriage certificate is most likely wrong, that information would be helpful to know.

Thanks
Dead End with Matthews/Mathews/Mathieu Family

Good Afternoon All!

I am at a real loss with my research on the Matthews/Mathews/Mathieu family. My great-grandfather Francis Matthews was born in June 1890, but one record says he's from St. Johnsbury, VT while the other says he's from West Concord, VT. He was one of six children (Helen, George, Louis, William, Ida, Francis), and his parents were Edward Matthews (a/k/a Edmond Mathieu or Edouard Mathieu) and Julia Dubios (or Moran). What I DO know is they moved to Lawrence, MA in 1895. Edward died in Manchester, NH on March 18, 1901. He was a nasty alcoholic who left the family and died not long after. If you read the article it could be taken as a suicide, but I don't ever think it was solved.

Anyway, the Edward Matthews branch is odd. Of the six children, only three had children of their own. William had one son but they moved to Washington DC. Ida had a daughter but that is where the line ended. Frank had seven living children, one of whom is my grandfather. Only one of Frank's children is still living but Frank died young and there is no knowledge of his family. At all. So basically, no one in my family knows my family's history! This is where I need help. I need to know the following: were any of these Matthews kids even born in Vermont? If they were, was it in Concord? I've already contacted St. Johnsbury and none of those names ring a bell. If there is anyone out there who can help me I would greatly appreciate it. There's a good chance that Edward and Julia married and had all their children in one spot before moving to Massachusetts. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Bill

When he died in Ohio his Father was given
as Joseph Ball & his Mother a Olive Ball. It says he was
born in VT. in 1794.

I can only find one Joseph Ball in VT in 1800 when Orange
would be 6.

Thanks for any help.

Darlene T.
Elizabeth (Benyon - Ofield - Logan) O'Donnell

I am seeking information about my Great-grandmother. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Benyon. I believe that she was born in Liverpool England around 1851, where she met my Great-grandfather Michael O’Donnell. She quite possibly was married to a Logan and an Ofield. My information shows that they had a son Andrew and possibly sons Edward, George and Thomas Ofield. There also might have been daughters Mabel, Clara, Lottie, Mary and Margaret. I can not verify any of this information except for the son Andrew, my Grandfather. My records show that she was buried in Norton Mills Vermont but I am unsure of the date. I have been doing research about my family for about 12 years but have reached a dead-end on the O’Donnell side. I am hoping that I might be able to gather additional information using the Benyon side. I appreciate any help that you can give me and wish to thank you in advance for your assistance.

Respectfully,
Tim O’Donnell
John ARNEY came to America from England at the age of 21 in 1807. He lived in Guildhall, Essex County, Vermont at the time of the 1810 census and is listed as a single male of more than 16 but less than 26 years of age. (The 1810 VT census index has a transcription error that lists him as John AMEY. The microfilm of the original clearly shows the name as ARNEY, but the R and N are run together.) John married Ruth SCHOFF, daughter of Daniel Schoff and his wife, Lucy Merrill, who lived in Maidstone at the time of the 1810 census. No record of John and Ruth's marriage or the date it occurred has been found. Their first child, William, was born in Brunswick on June 1, 1812. A second son, John F., was also born in VT in 1815. The family moved to Columbia County, PA about 1817. Interested in any information relating to John, Ruth, or other members of their families.

Anyone able to do a birth lookup? I think Eva Simonds was born Jan 24, 1868 in Lunenburg, VT (or Bath, NH). She was my gg grandmother.

I think her parents were Warren L. Simonds and Sarah (Bedell) Simonds. I would be happy to avoid a $10 and/or $12 on-line ordering fee for this info. since I'm not sure of the location.

Levi BROOKS b. abt. 1810

I've been researching my daughter's paternal ancestry and found the following family in the 1850 Census in Beaver Dam, Dodge County, Wisconsin:

Levi BROOKS 40yrs. b. VT
Nancy 32yrs. b. VT
Samuel 10yrs. b. VT
Julia 5yrs. b. NY
Sumner 2yrs. b. NY (male)

When I searched the 1840 Census, there were two Levi BROOKS listed, one in Canaan, one in St. Albans. Both were between 30 and 40 years of age. The one in Canaan had just one adult male and one adult female listed in the household. When I checked the 1850 Census again, I noticed that there was still a Levi BROOKS living in St. Albans, so I am deducing that the Levi BROOKS listed in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin is the one listed in Canaan in the 1840 Census.

I was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice on finding out more on this Levi BROOKS' line. Also, it would be nice to find out what his wife Nancy's maiden name is.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! ~~Bren

Helen M. DANE (?) 1930 Concord, Essex County, Vermont in household of Cyrus LEWIS

I have located in 1910 Kirby, Caledonia County, Vermont in district 45, sheet 2A, lines 42 through 45 the residence of Marshall S. JOSLIN. Marshall list his age as 69 and born in Vermont. Martha A. JOSLIN age 74, his sister, also born Vermont. George F. JOSLIN age 41, listed as nephew and born in Vermont. Also in household is Helen M. BEDELL age 15, listed as niece, born in Washington (State).

I would like to know more about these persons especially Helen M. Bedell. She also appears in the 1930 Concord, Essex County, Vermont census in the home of Cyrus LEWIS. Enumeration district 5 - 8, supervisor district 1, sheet 1-B lines 53 - 58.

In that household are Cyrus G. LEWIS age 44, born New Hampshire, first marriage at age 24. Mary E. LEWIS is his wife, age 46 born in Vermont. Vivian A. LEWIS 17 is their daughter, born in Vermont. Harry M. BEDELL 51 is listed as brother-in-law and born in Vermont. Helen M. DANE 35 is listed as cousin, born in Washington (State) and was first married at age 18. William B. DANE 6 is listed as boarder and born in Vermont. (Pretty sure this is son of Helen) Not 100% certain that surname is DANE, some difficulty is determining part of the writing.

Any help on these families greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I am trying to figure out some puzzles regarding my grandmother and her parents.

Her name was Margaret G. Quigley. Born <somewhere> in Vermont aroung 1907.
She had a number of siblings, including Eugene and possibly James that may have been born in County Donegal, Ireland.

Her mother was Margaret (nee. Sheridan) Quigley.
I am not sure what her husband's name was.

This is part of my confusion.
I have TWO Mrs. Quigleys and I am not sure which one is my ggranmother and which one may be my great aunt? or just a cousin?

I have letters from a Mrs. Eugene Quigley, referring to her late husband "Owen".(I know this also means "Eugene")
from Donegal - Ballyliffen, Ireland.
They were living in NY city 1886 ->
>then I have a letter from the same address from Mrs. Margaret Sheridan Quigley around 1920. I am wondering if SHE is my ggrandmother, and she was living with her sister-in-law??/

Does anyone know of this family?
Maggie Sheridan?
Her husband________Quigley?

ANY info or leads would be appreciated.

Thank you!
Suzanne

I just read that the town of Concord Vt got its charter in 1781. My GGgrandfather Thomas Heald was suppose to have been born in Concord Vt in 1780. I am wondering if the name Heald or the name spelled differently could have been amoung those on the charter. I did find a Joseph Heald in the land records who wanted to rent school land from the town to grow crops on. He was born about 1784. I can find no clue to his and Thomas's origin anywhere. Any help locateing this man and His wife Barbara ?? would be appreciated
