Don't know if you have learned what you want about this Freeman Gee, but will write what I know. This Freeman Gee was the son of Solomon Gee and Rachel Hartshorn of Lunenburg, Vermont. He had a sister, Mary/Polly, who married a Luther Scales who was born in Lisbon, New Hampshire and died in Concord, Vermont. They were married in Lunenburg, Vermont November 21, 1832. This Freeman who married Mary Palmer as his second wife was first married to Lucinda Smith. Lucinda Smith had a sister, Triphena who married Matthew Scales, and Freeman's sister Mary/Polly Gee Scales had at least three children including son, John Matthew Scales who married Almeda Smith, who was daughter of Asa Smith, brother to Lucinda, Freeman Gee's first wife. So ther was some relationships that existed between Freeman Gee and members of the Scale family. I have yet to find the records necessary to to link the varius Scales wh were in the Lunenburg, Vermont and surrounding Vermont and New Hampshire area, but would bet that there existed some relationship between Freeman Gee and the Solomon Scales family he was living with in 1870. Freeman Gee and Lucinda Smith are my Gr. Gr. Grandparents. Warren

She is a mystery to me!!!
But I can see from your info that my Husband and you share the same heritage. You and he are indeed 2nd cousins.
He says he remembers Martha quite well.
This is my husband's work email address, so we don't always check it. You may contact us at e.d.herrick@shaw.ca for a more rapid response.
Good to know that someone else is doing some work on the Family line.
John Dodge 1790 (probably MA) - 1873 IL

Hello All,

It's been a very long time since I've posted. Maybe someone new will have info for me (fingers crossed!)

I am looking for the family line of my John Dodge - died 30 Oct 1873 Port Byron, Rock Island Co, IL age 83 years, so born 1789 or 1790. John is found in the 1820-1860 Guildhall, Essex Co, VT census. He was married to Fanny Belcher, d/o Joseph Belcher & Thankful Baker abt 1813. Joseph & Thankful are found 1800 & 1810 Grafton Co, NH census, & 1820-1830 in Coos Co, NH. They are in the 1840 census for Port Byron. They both died there in the 1840's.

John & Fanny are the parents of three living children: Capt George Dodge b 1814 Guildhall d 1905 Port Byron, IL, Harriet b 1818 Guildhall d 1882 Port Byron married to George S Moore, and Susan (my 3rd great) b 1825 Guildhall d 1897 Port Byron married to Erastus Rogers. Fanny Belcher d 14 Oct 1831 in Guildhall & John then married Sarah (Gilbert) Nelson (widow) 4 Feb 1832. They had one living daughter, Mary b 1833 Guildhall, married to Joseph Ornsby.

George Dodge wrote a journal when he was 82 years old & stated his father was born in Salem, MA. Census records state that John was born MA, NH, & VT. Another clue George states is that his father, John, was a hatter & taught George the trade. I can't find a marriage record for John & Fanny, but my guess is that they married in Coos Co or Grafton Co, NH, as that is where Fanny was in the time frame. John was also 'hotel keeper' in the 1860 census. This was probably the Essex House.

If anyone has any info, or can send me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it!

Hi - I am trying to locate a marriage record and birth records for Marotte family; parents Bartholome and Caroline Sturgeon, married abt 1875. I'm actually not sure if they married in Canada, VT or NH. Their four children were born abt 1878 and 1886. On their subsequent census's the children list their place of birth as either Bloomfield, VT or N. Strattford, NH. Same with their later marriage records. By 1900 they are in Rumford, ME. Last name is also spelled Merritt on census's and other records. I'm not seeing their births on Ancestry or FamilySearch. Can anyone see it somewhere else?

Thanks so much, Lisa

I am also looking for any information about family of Lodema Durkee, of Williamstown, Vermont, born Jan. 1,1797, married William Washburn, moved to Batavia, New York and eventually died in Pontiac, Michigan. Her daughter, Mary Washburn, married William Harris in 1875. Their daughter, Mary Harris, born 1877 or 1878, was my grandmother. She married Edward Andrews and lived in Three Rivers Michigan, where my mother, Barbara Andrews, was born (1912.) I believe that Lodema was the daughter of Phoebe Ingraham and William Durkee of Vermont, but can't go back further. I am visiting Williamstown,VT this summer and would like to know more.

Jeanne A.

Please, looking for someone with access to the reference book titled, "St. James Catholic Church, Island Pond, Vermont, baptisms, 1872-1935, marriages, 1882-1942, deaths, 1872-1948", published by the American-Canadian Genealogical Society, to do a birth/baptismal look-up for me for the following child whose given name was: Rosa Delima, b.30 Jun 1880. Her anglecized French surname became DUMAS, but because her parents, Ira Henry Louis Dumas and Malvina Leclere, didn't read/write English I've seen the surname spelled in a variety of ways before then in various documents as Demon, Demnon, Demers, Demershe, Dumais, Dumaise, Dumase, and Dunmore. Rosa, who more commonly went by the name of Delma in her later years, may also have additional given names, as it was quite common to add on another one and/or more when baptized, so this look-up probably won't be a very straight forward task for anyone willing to undertake it. Thanking you in advance, it is most appreciated. Lynne

Please, looking for someone with the paperback book titled, "Mission of Norton Mills, Vermont, Marriages, Baptisms, Burials: February, 1888 to September, 1955", published by the Vermont Historical Society to do birth/baptismal look-ups for the following: (1)Ira Joseph, b.15 Jul 1887, (2) Parmelia Marie, b.27 Jul 1889. Their anglecized French surname became DUMAS, but because their parents, Ira Henry Louis Dumas and Malvina Leclere, didn't read/write English I've seen their surname spelled in a variety of ways before then in various documents as Demon, Demnon, Demers, Demershe, Dumais, Dumaise, Dumase, and Dunmore. The above children may also have additional given names, as it was quite common to add on another one and/or more when baptized, so this look-up probably won't be a very straight forward task for anyone willing to undertake it. Thanking you in advance, it is most appreciated.

Lynne
This is quite a time-gap from your original post but I'm going to respond anyway hoping you have found some information. I am trying to locate the parents/family of my great-great grandfather George Perkins Buffington, who was born 25 Dec 1831 in Lemington, Essex, Vermont. Did you locate any information and did it happen to include George P. Buffington? Thanks!

Paul , We have not talked in a while. Members of my Mathewson family were at Athens in Bradford County during the Massacre. All the land my Mathewson's lived on in New York and in Bradford County were bought by one Mathewson. Winchester Mathewson in 1770. It seems he was murdered in 1774. I need to look further into my Elliott connection, Prentis and Curtis. I suspect one or both had married one of my Mathewsons or they had lost a relative in the Wyoming Massacre since they seem to have settled on or very near Winchesters properties. Winchester is the man who owned land in Steuben, Wayne Otsego chenango and Bradford Counties.:) His son Nero died in the Wyoming Massacre, another son , Constant, died in the battle of MUD Creek in the Delaware river and son Elisha inherited all of the property. Hope you email me soon
LInda Dabulewicz

The original documents show that her parents were both born in NY. Since I find a lot of Smiths in Lunenburg in those time frames, but no Kate, Katherine or spelled with a C, I'm wondering if she too weren't born in NY. Perhaps they joined family there and were married there.
I have a Helen A. Patterson in Lunenburg, who married a James Brinsmade Brown, son of Samuel Brown and Judith Smith. They married 7 May 1850 so conceivabley could have been mother to your Kate/Katherine. Helen died 1881 in Maidstone, VT so possibly some Smith, Brown or Patterson family there. - Not much help but some avenues to explore. Wish I could give you more. Perhaps someone with more expertise of sources could help with the 1880 census info. They were at least still in Lunenburg then.) Shirley Pearson

Mary Palmer b. Littleton,(NH), m 11 Apr. 1870 to Freeman Gee, born in Lunenburg, Vermont. Married by John W. Hartshorn, JP.

Their marriage Certificate says Freeman was a resident of Lunenburg, VT, a farmer, age 65, and this was his 2nd marriage. The marriage of Freeman and Mary was recorded in Lunenburg, VT, by Stephen Howe, Town Clerk. Mary was a resident of Lisbon, age 67, her 2nd marriage. I do not have a copy of the marriage certificate, but got these notes from it at the Lunenburg Town Offices.

1870 Census for Lunenburg, Vt, says Freeman was a retired farmer, and that he and Mary were living in household of Samuel Scales.

1880 Census for Dalton, NH, shows Mary Gee age 76, born in NH, and Freeman Gee, age 74 living in Dalton with the Samuel Scales family.

There were more than one Freeman Gee.

I sure an hoping someone can help me out here!
I NEED to find the 1900 United States Federal Census for Concord, Essex, Vermont, USA page #4. I have page #5 that begins with the family of Rutledge, Perley A (age 8), Harold A (age 6), Edith M (age 5), and so on and so forth. Now the page just before this (That would be page 4) would have the name of the parents to thse children. It is very important that I get a copy of this document. Would anyone happen to have a copy of it that they could send me? I really need it and can not get it for myself since I am not a paying member anymore to ancestry.com. I really appreciate it! Thanx!
Ernie
