Elizabeth (Leach) Rixford - genealogist from Fairfield

Is anyone familiar with the work of Elizabeth M. (Leach) Rixford, noted genealogist from Fairfield, VT (1866-195_)? She published several authoritative genealogical works including “Families Directly Descended from all the Royal Families of Europe (495-1932) and Mayflower Descendants” and “Three Hundred Colonial Ancestors and War Service.” She was also very involved with state and national historical societies and associations.

Ms. Rixford and my great-grandmother were cousins, and she did a lot of research on various families in my ancestry. In her books she often refers to “family records” as her sources. I would really like to find out what happened to all her research and records after she passed away in the 50’s. Is it still in the family, or was it perhaps donated to an area historical society? Any ideas much appreciated!

Jody Parker
jody@liveedgeconstruction.com

Any input would be helpfull, especially family histories, eventually want to write a story about him [so people will know] ,will also include many abenaki histories which show the racism & degradation these people went through. Some relatives of my ancestors where put at the poor farm in Sheldon then the state hospital where they died of delusions. Some did well for themselves. Thanks Shawn.

I have recently added data on Estina S. Hayes, dau of Orran Philander Hayes of Stowe, Lamoille Co., VT.

Thank You. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Lucre family name

I am looking for the family of my father. My name is Julianna Lucre. My father's name was Benjamin Lucre. He has brothers and sisters but I am not sure if they have the same father. I am told his father's name was Benjamin Lucre as well and his mother's name was either Viviana or Vivian. I don't know her last name. She never married his father. According to my mother, my father was the result of a fling. My father was born in New York but it may not be where his father is originally from and it is possible that he was conceived outside of New York. If anyone can help, that'd be great : )

Millicent Blodget was born in 1853 in Swanton Falls, VT. Her parents were Orville Blodget (Blodgett) and Millicent Chilton. I can find no info on Orville and Millicent. The first record on Millicent Blodget is the 1870 census where she is boarding with Sarah Blodget (VT) (1826) in Beaver Dam WI where she met her husband William C. Blissett (moved shortly after census with William to Oshkosh WI) Family records have Orville as being born in Vermont and Millicent Chilton in Canada--not unusual since Swanton Falls is at the northern tip of Lake Champlain near the Canadian Border.
Any Info would be helpful.
Early Methodist Preachers

At the end of the revolutionary war there was an exodus through New York and Vermont to the area of St. Armand, Pigeon Hill and Frelighsburg Quebec. According to Cyrus Thomas in his book, Contributions to the history of the Eastern Townships, published 1866, a Methodist Preacher by the name of Rev. Thomas Best from Highgate VT used to minister the area and formed a society there in 1804. My maternal ancestor John Tittemore was the first settler in this area. His sister Sophia, who died in 1796, was probably the first white person to die in this section and was buried in what is now the Pigeon Hill Cemetery, AKA the old Methodist Cemetery. Unfortunately the history of that period is lost in time and other than four slate stones in the cemetery, one scribed JT Died July 31 1809 aged 87, no other record remains. I have contacted the Highgate Town Clerk as well as members on the current Methodist Church in Highgate to no avail. I apologize for taking so much space in outlining the history but I am hoping that someone on this site might just have some information and the history bit will jog their memory. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated. Preachers usually kept diaries of BMD and the north half of the Pigeon Hill Cemetery, or what is known as the Old Methodist Section, would have hopefully had a plot map. I would be only too happy to exchange information or cemetery lookups or photos of this cemetery from my files. Thanks, Keith.

Looking for ancestor info:
Millicent Blodgett b. 1853 Swanton Falls VT.
In family bible is listed her marriage to William C. Blissett in WI.
Relatives listed are: Orville Blodgett (VT) & Millicent Chilton (Canada).
Variations on first names Orvile, Orvill etc. Milicent, Melicent, etc.
Orville is not that common a name and I believe that Orville and Millicent Blodgett remained in Vermont and did not move to Wisconsin.
The first record of Millicent Blodgett in WI is in Beaver Dam where she shared a residence with Sarah Blodgett born in 1826 in Vermont 44 in 1870 census and probably widowed. Millicent also shared the residence with Almeda Spalden(? sp) might be Almeda Spalding( b. 1822) since there seems to be a family connection to a Spalding line. She also appears to be widowed.
So--Blodgett/Chilton connection
Also in history an Emeline Blodgett married a George S. Chilton. Again back and forth across the Canadian Border.
[Chiltons of Clarenceville, Missisquoi, Quebec.
Thanks

My mother was Hazel Julia Ellsworth, born in 1901 in Pigeon Hill Quebec. Her ancestors for three generations lived in the Berkshire area of Franklin County Vermont. While I have been very fortunate, through the responses from some incredible people on these sites, the birth, marriage and death information for most of her ancestors is now almost complete. However I am now looking for biographical and personal information so as to assemble a more complete family history. Her gggrandfather was Dr. William Clement Ellsworth, b 1778 in Claremont, Sullivan Co. N.H.. History so far tells me he was a respected general practitioner in the West Berkshire area. He is buried in the local cemetery there. His son, her ggrandfather, was Cassius Wirt Ellsworth, b 1831. Census data lists him as a farmer, however his history is recorded in the Vermont Veterans of the civil war as he died in the battle of Pettersburg Va. He is buried beside his father. Her grandfather, Deforest Morat Ellsworth, b 1852, was the last to be born in Vermont. He moved to Quebec where her father, Stephen Cassius Ellsworth, was born in Eccles Hill Quebec in 1875. I would very much appreciate hearing from anyone who might have information on these families and their lives. I have photographed the cemetery headstones of all those listed and I would be more than willing to share these along with the personal data I have collected to anyone who is also related or interested. Thank you for reading and hopefully for helping. Keith. (J. Keith Carter).
As a ps: The lineage carries on through Oliver, William and Thomas to Sgt. Josiah Ellsworth in Windsor, Hartford Co. Ct., so any additional information on these families would also be appreciated. And no, unfortunately here in Canada, I do not have access to the various books published. Thanks, k.

His military records stated that he was 44 years old at the time of enlistment. That indicates that Jonas was born about 1818. Jonas had atleast 2 children born in Enosburgh, Franklin County, VT named Theodore and Theophilus. Sometime before 1860, they moved to Malone NY.
Jonah Thomas b 1781 son of Zebulon, Montgomery

Hi- Looking for the name of the wife of Jonah Thomas, and any of the other siblings (Lucia Lydia is the only one I have). Jonah and Zebulon were some of the early settlers of Montgomery, and came from Middleboro MA. I don't find a wedding record for him in MA, so appears his wife (referenced as Mrs Jonah Thomas in the Methodist Church info I saw on line), but don't have a name or burial place for her. He moved in 1850 to Dekalb, IL. Any assistance appreciated.

In 1810 cansus for Onondaga Co. NY, there was only one PAGE, found in series M252, roll 34, page 26
Could Mercy Paige Merrill, b.1792 in VT have been a younger sister of the following James?
PAGE JAMES	NY ONONDAGA MARCELLUS 1810	20100 20010 00
This entry does NOT match that for the only James Page in the 1800 VT Census, but the NY James page would have been only about 15 in 1800-- an unnamed child in one of the 56 Page/ Paige VT households. Also the NY census entry does not give the state of birth for householders.
PAGE JAMES	VT FRANKLIN JOHNSON 1800	20010 10110 00

The NY Page family consisted of 2 boys under 10, a father 16-25, 2 girls under 10,and a mother 26-44.This suggests that the father and mother are both close to age 25, say 25 & 26, since
men ordinarily did not marry a girle more than 2 years older than themselves. Thus both parents would have been born about 1785.
If they had their 4 children under 10 on alternate years, the first would have been born about 1802, perhaps a bit later since kids often came fast then, when a couple was first married. This suggests the couple was married 1786-1806.

Only 1 James Page married in NY/NE in the period 1802-1806
James Page m. 9 Apr.1804, Litchfield or Hallowell, Kenebeck ME to Deborah BASSET
Searching the IGI 1794-1804 I find another James Page m.22 Dec.1794 Kensington, Rockingham NH to Hannah Woodward. This seems early to produce just 4 children, all born 1800-1810. Where are the children which should have been born 1795-1799?

Does anyone have any information of a Peter Greenwood and Julia Sweeney, both apparently from Quebec (perhaps Sutton), who married July 18, 1840 and had a son Charles born 1868 who married a Lucy Martin and lived in the Sheldon/Highgate area?

Unfortunately, this is about all I have on them, other than the fact they may also have had a son Eli Greenwood, born about 1844, who died in Sheldon in May 13, 1908 and was married to a Celinda/Selinda (Mary) Bogash.

Thanks for any help,

Richard Husband

Hello,
This is my ggrandmother's sister. She was born Sept 6, 1844 to Francois Perrier and Esther Provost in Quebec, Canada.
Marie is on the 1861 and 1871 censuses for St. Philippe with her parents but cannot be found on the 1881 on familysearch.org. She may have married but I don't know if she did, or to whom, or when. I have been told that she went to Vermont, and other siblings ended up in Newport, or Montgomery Centre or East and West Charleston, but mostly Newport. If anyone can find her marriage, or her death or children or anything, I would be very appreciative.
Thanks for any help
Peggy Gordon

Lydia was living with Charles' family in Berkshire in 1850 Census. Anyone have any info about this family?
