Charles Stewart Lewis (1824-1894), son of Silas Lewis and Mary Savage of Waterloo, Quebec, was first married on January 21st, 1850 at the Methodist Church in Brome, Quebec, to his first cousin once removed; Laura Adeline Townsend, daughter of Eliphalet Townsend and Elizabeth Lewis. She was born February 16th, 1832 in Brome, Quebec. After the wedding they moved to Vermont where after a rocky start they divorced. Charles was accused of spending all of her property while she was dangerously sick with a high fever in Rutland, Vermont. 2 years later Charles Stewart remarried and the townspeople from Rutland gathered some money and sent Laura Adeline back to her mother's house in Lawrenceville, Quebec. When Laura Adeline recovered she moved back to Vermont in 1856 and remarried to Filander Sartle in Barton, Vermont. After the wedding they moved to Lawrenceville near her mother where Laura Adeline died the year next on May 9th, 1857. Charles Stewart Lewis and Laura Adeline Townsend had no children.
