Hello Jim,

I did not find your Lawrence Carroll or any spelling derivative in my naturalization records. I looked in the 1900 and 1880 census. I did not find him in the 1880 census, and there are indications that he came after that time. I did see that he claimed a naturalized status in 1900. Indications are from the census there is possibly a 6 year gap between his arrival and marriage to Margaret. He may have petitioned for naturalization where he was living, in another place, when he became eligible to apply. Some folks went back to the location they petitioned for their final naturalization process.

I did see a Hugh Lawrence Carroll, his son, and tried to find any other connection to the name Hugh or Hubert. I did find other Hugh Lawrence Carroll's, which may be a unique family name combination, and worthy of research for connection possibilities. (Vt. BMD's)

There is a lady named Peggy Dowd, who is a Rutland County Carroll Family expert. If you run across her on these boards, she may be able to provide you with some information. I owe her many thanks for information regarding my Carrolls.
