In the name of God Amen I Richard Bruce of the State of Virginia and county of Albemarle Do make this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all other wills and Testaments heretofore by me made and this and this only to be my last will and Testament Imprimis my will and desire is that after my decase [sic] that my friends be collected and my body buried in a decent manner without any funeral Oration whatever-- Item my will and Desire is that all my Just debts be paid in the following manner that all my Stock of Every description together with all my household furniture be sold on twelve months credit and that my land all be rented and my slaves hired out to the highest bidder (but not to be hired to hard masters) untill all my Just debts is fully satisfied and then to be sold both land and slaves on twelve months credit taking bond and security and the money Except one hundred dollars which is to be applied towards the schooling of my daughter Betsys three children and the balance to be Equally divied [sic] between all my grand children that are then living (to wit) the children of my Daughter Betsy Bruce the children of my daughter Sally Garrison the children of my daughter Caty Gouldin [this surname uncertain; the first part is obscured by an ink smudge] and the children of my daughter Patsy Walton and the children of my daughter Sh___. [The words "and the children of my daughter Sh___" are interlineated after "Walton." The last part of the name "Sh___" is obscured by an ink smudge.] But if any of my grand children are under age and their parents chooses to keep their part in their hands they may on their giving bond and security to pay the children when they come of age lastly I appoint my friend Charles Parrott Executor of this my last will and Testament who is to give no security for the performance thereof: but I hereby charge him in the presence of Almighty God and his holy Angels strictly to comply with what is herein stated. And I do hereby publish and pronounce this my last will and Testament In witness whereof I set my hand and seal to this my last will and Testament this Eighteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and thirteen
