I have a James Tomlinson from Amherst, VA in my line. Most of them were James, John or William. They go back to 1740 or so. My great grandfather, William Tomlinson, changed to Tomlin sometime around 1900. His own children did not know that their lineage was Tomlinson. My grandmother, Ora Frances Martin, is said to have been of Monacan descent. Her records have proven to be much harder to find. That actually suggests to me that she is Monacan. Anyway, Grissom is a name that pops up as a middle name in a few places.
