I have found records however they are not complete in the south if a child born out of wedlock was not spoken of. During slavery slave women were basically raped by their masters, some of the children from that union were well treated and even continued to work on the plantation after the war, however they still were never treated as equal treatment as their brothers and sisters. In my family both sides every great grandparent I have and further back came from slave and slave master,I have no problem finding English,Dutch, and scottish ancestors, but the black ancestors only slave mother and child none of the fathers. There is a book you can order its called Appomattox heritage that will help you find a lot of the records you may need.
