Smith Family - Migrated west around 1830

Looking for a couple missing links. Robert McCoy Smith and brother Joab Byron Smith were said to be from Augusta County and had a father named William Smith.

Robert McCoy Smith (b 1801) married Malinda Goode in Botetourt Co in 1823, and Joab Byron Smith married Sarah Ann Lewis in Jackson County WV in 1836. They are believed to have a sister Margaret (married Barney Painter). This line of the family is very closely associated with the Harrison family...Benjamin Harrison apparently moved with the group to Kanawha County.

William Smith and adult children migrated west to Kanawha and Jackson Counties in WV after a brief stay in Meigs Ohio.

My dna testing shows that I am a direct descendent of John Smith (b 1698) who died in Rockingham in 1776. My problem is in connecting William Smith to John Smith.

Any Augusta or Rockingham County information on the Smith line would be greatly appreciated, and more specifically William Smith with children Robert, Joab, and Margaret.
