Hi Friends,
Seeking Armstrong DNA (direct male descendants) from Augusta, Pendleton, Highland, Loudoun, Upshur
counties in VA, Knox county in TN, Abbeville Co, SC, and New Castle Co, DE with the goal of sorting out the
Armstrong families that descend from these families:

Lt. John Armstrong (my husband’s 5th great grandfather)
Birth 1759 in Augusta Co., Virginia
Death 7 Aug 1821 in Pendleton Co., Virginia
On ancestry: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/15365304/person/1349307725

William Armstrong Jr. (brother of John)
Birth 12 Dec 1759 in Virginia
Death 1823-1834 in Pendleton County, Virginia
On ancestry: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/15365304/person/1349312265

William Armstrong Sr. (father of John and Wm Jr.)
On ancestry: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/15365304/person/28047148904

Note: Most trees on ancestry list:
Lt. Robert Armstrong II
Birth 1731 in Ulster, Antrim, Ireland
Death 1796 in Knoxville, Knox, Tennessee
as the father of John Armstrong and William Armstrong Jr. by an earlier marriage
to Jane Van Arsdale but no proof of this has ever surfaced. I believe if there was a
marriage to Jane, it was a different Robert. I don’t believe Lt. Robert Armstrong
was the father of John Armstrong and William Armstrong Jr.
See Robert II on ancestry: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/15365304/person/1349310478

I also don’t believe his father:
Robert Armstrong I
Birth abt. 1700 in Ulster, County Antrim, Ireland
Death 12 Nov 1754 in Augusta Co., Virginia
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/15365304/person/1349312255
is directly connected to John, Wm Sr and Wm Jr. either although the two Roberts may
be collaterally related to John, Wm. Sr. and Wm. Jr.

I want to publically thank Steven Zuraff that I met through these lists, who generously
shared and documented all his research and records here:
https://sites.google.com/site/sjzscertainfolksandevents/arms...
After studying all this, I’m totally convinced that William Armstrong Sr. was the father of
Wm Jr. and John Armstrong.

I would however like to back this up with DNA which would benefit a lot of people since
Armstrong descendants from both families are numerous.
What I have to date for comparison is my husband, descendant of John Armstrong
tested to 111 markers + family finder via FTDNA and his Y-results are part of the Armstrong project
here: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/armstrong/
If you click on Y-DNA results you can see a lot of Armstrongs have tested.
Unfortunately I don’t know if anyone on this page are known descendants of either of these lines.
My husband’s closest match 106/111 was to a descendant of Archibald Armstrong in Delaware that died in
1775 but I haven’t been able to connect them to the Pendleton Co. Armstrongs yet but it would be
a logical migration from DE to Loudoun Co. where William Sr. and sons lived before moving on to
Augusta and finally Pendleton Co.(Highland).

There is one DNA pending from a descendant of William Jr. that hopefully will show relationship
to my husband to help confirm that Wm Jr. and John Armstrong were the same line but it may
not given they are 6th cousins 1x removed. I got a few emails expressing interest from several
more possibles but to my knowledge none of them have tested still so…. still seeking Armstrong
males for comparison.
I am also working with a genetic genealogist. If we can find any Armstrong male descendants
of Robert I and Robert II, we may be able to separate out these two families from Wm., John,
and Wm Jr.
If you know any Armstrong males that have tested or are willing, would love to hear from you.
