I’m trying to determine the ancestry of my wife and of William H. Cavendish who appears to be my wife’s 6th g-grandfather. However, there seems to be reference to both William Hunter Cavendish and William Henderson Cavendish. In much of the on-line references they are rolled into one person, William H. Cavendish. Are there two individuals or one? My wife’s 4th g-grandfather is William Hunter Cavendish Jenkins, his mother is listed as “Nancy” Cavendish (abt. 1770-1818) married to Azariah Jenkins, and his grandfather is William Hunter Cavendish. This seems logical. Then, I see people inserting William Henderson Cavendish and William Hunter Cavendish as the same person in articles (from Wikipedia to personal notes on genealogy web-sites.) I also want to know who “Nancy’s” mother was considering “Nancy” was born around 1770. Also was “Nancy” a nickname? There seems to be significant reason to believe that one of the William H. Cavendish’s (if there are two) was descended from the noble family of Cavendish one way or the other. Probably both were if there are two but, there is much confusion. Can anyone add to my enlightenment? Byron N. Park,
