I am pleased to see you have researched the issue further. And so have I, finding that it may have been a little bit more like you thought. William H. (Hunter, Henderson) Cavendish was the illegitimate son of a Duke, so he may have done the middle name thing and encouraged his wife to do the same out of a certain rebelliousness. I have recently completed my research into his line across the pond and it seems they do claim him...even though he was illegitimate. His activity in this part of the country may have stimulated an interest in doing the same thing, throwing in the face of authority a certain rebellion of names, so to speak.
