This is Baker researcher Jan Swart in response to your old posting.
I show that the Samuel Baker who married Betsy Trent in 1796 in Bedford County, VA was a son of Samuel Baker and Mary Hodnett Baker of Bedford County, VA. The Bakers were an English family who moved to Amelia/Prince Edward County Virginia from Lancaster County Pa about 1740-1742.
I show Samuel Baker/Betsy Trent children to be Elijah, Sydney, Susanna, Lucy Ann, Ann, James A. and Samuel Baker.

His parents were:
SAMUEL BAKER, JR., (SAMUEL, CALEB Sr., ROBERT) b. Abt. 1745. m MARY HODNETT BAKER; lived in Bedford County Va. died 24 Jan 1826 in Botetourt County VA; Mary Hodnett Baker was b 1750 Buckingham Co, VA. Mary Hodnett Baker lived in Buckingham County, VA in 1827; Died in Wilson County, TN after 1830 at the home of her daughter.
