A living male Davidson who shows his lineage back to the William Davidson (born around the 1740s) who married Martha Baker of Prince Edward Co., VA recently took the DNA test, and he is a "match" to DNA "Family 16" at www.davidsongenes.org
. There are several clues that had suggested that this William Davidson was instead a member of DNA "Family 10," but those "clues" were apparently just "coincidences." I wanted to post this here, since I have posted in the past that this William Davidson was, or at least probably was, a member of DNA "Family 10"....but unless there was an "adoption" or an "out-of-wedlock birth" somwhere in this line that "caused" this match to DNA "Family 16," that no longer appears to be correct.
This William Davidson lived in Botetourt Co., VA from about 1769 until his death around 1812 (he left a Will then), and the other William Davidson (born about 1750) who lived over in "next-door" Rockbridge Co., VA (and who married Sarah McCoy and the widow Mrs. Elizabeth (Wilson) McCrea) was also a member of DNA "Family 16." We know that this other William Davidson in Rockbridge came to VA around 1772-1774 from PA....but we never knew that he was related to the William Davidson who married Martha Baker.
