If you are descended from Charles ROPER (b abt 1776-82, d bef 05 Dec 1814 - Northampton, NC), you might be interested in my new thread at the RootsWeb ROPER Message Board:
"Ann Lewis ROPER (b bef 1766, d bef Jun 1818 - Northampton, NC), Widow of Richard ROPER" (5 Jul 2014 6:48PM GMT)http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.roper/1931/mb.ashx
You also need to understand that:
(a) There is NO EVIDENCE that Richard ROPER was born in 1735 or that he was born in Brunswick County, Virginia;
(b) There is NO EVIDENCE that Richard ROPER was EVER MARRIED to anyone other than Ann LEWIS;
(c) There is NO EVIDENCE that Richard ROPER died on 19 Jan 1782.
The first two "facts" were simply MADE UP by persons seeking to connect to this Richard ROPER to qualify for membership in a hereditary society. These family history "fictionalists" have INVENTED a spouse, various children and a variety of specific dates to create the false impression that there is some evidence in support of their falsehoods.
Also, they needed to create a date of birth early enough to support the connection of various children fraudulently ascribed to Richard ROPER in respect of the invented first marriage.
While the date of death given has no support, this is NOT to say that there isn't actual evidence that Richard ROPER died leaving a widow named Ann Lewis ROPER. Richard ROPER's death is supported by extant records, but the precise death date seems to be unsupported.
If you have discovered additional authentic information about this family in the decade and a half since your post, I would appreciate hearing of it. However, please do NOT simply repost the erroneous and fraudulent information which is being continuously republished by the fictionalists!
