IVA CLAIRE JONES 1950's????

Seek information on Iva Claire Jones, believe she may have been born about 1899.
Thanks to an answered query made on the Hot Spring Co.,AK site, I think Iva was a TEACHER in 1. Martinsville-1951, 2. Lynchburg-1953, 3. Alexandria-1956, 4. Lynchburg-1957. This info came from city directories.
We have the address: 1620 Parkland Dr in Lynchburg from an envelope sent by Iva to Juanita JOnes Dietz in Stephenson, Va during the 1950's.
Would like to be able to determine relationship of Iva and Juanita. Suspect they were cousins on the Jones side, Iva perhaps a child of Albert Jones's brother????
ANYONE LIVING KNOW OF IVA CLAIRE JONES? Anyone able to tell us where she may have taught? Able to provide parentage or whether Jones was a married name. Is it possible she eventually married a man surnamed Thomas? Did she have siblings?
I think at age 21 she was boarding with a family in Lynchburg in 1920 and working as a stenographer?
Appreciate your help sorting out this conundrum!
s

Esther Lee Hubbard Mercer 1912-2013 b. Rustburg, Va.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sunset came on Friday, April 12, 2013, for Mrs. Esther Lee Mercer, when God called her home.

She died peacefully, after a short illness in the home she shared with her precious devoted daughter, Barbara Carpenter.

Esther, who was the centerpiece of the family, was a very kind hearted and generous person. Although she was petite in stature, she was feisty and quick witted. She brought the family humor and joy. She was a woman of integrity and she was filled with the joy of the Lord.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1912, to Elijah and Willie Ann Hubbard in Rustburg, Virginia.

The family moved to Youngstown, Ohio a year after World War I had ended in 1919. The stories she told of the struggles and the joys that the family endured during the Great Depression were emotional and inspirational.
She held several different jobs as a young woman, but her account of working at the Ravenna Arsenal during World War II was by far the most interesting.

In 1944, Esther became a member of the Greater Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. B.J. Myers. She served as an usher for many years.
In 1959, she married John Mercer and they were happily married until his death in 1991.

Aside from her daughter, Barbara Carpenter, Esther leaves her grandson, Kenneth Carpenter Jr. She also leaves a niece, Mrs. Esther Smith and great-nieces Pamela Ruffin and Gwendolyn Smith. She also leaves a host of great-nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her wonderful son-in-law, Kenneth Carpenter Sr., who died in March of 2011; two sisters, Ruby, who died at a young age and Mrs. Helen Langley, who passed away in 1990; and her niece, Grace B. Jones, passed away in 2006.

A private service and interment were held at Lake Park Cemetery on Thursday, April 18, 2013.

The burial arrangements were handled by the Sterling McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
In 1810, Samuel moved back to Bedford or Campbell and practiced law. The Branch family owned much land in the two counties, when their brother, James Branch, died in 1807 without a will and the courts had to divide up his estate.
Does anyone have access to the burial list of people buried at the Cobbs Hall Farm in Campbell CO? This cemetery is located near Brookneal, VA. The owners of this farm now are Donna Jennings and her husband. The farm is on Lewis Ford Rd. Some of my Cobbs family are buried there, according to the Cemetery book I received from the Campbell CO Historical Society. My 4th great grandparents, Thomas Cobbs and his wife, Mary, according to this cem book, are buried there but there is no stone. Also supposedly buried there is Rev. Charles Cobbs and his wife, Sarah, as well as several of Charles and Sarah's children. Can someone help me? Appreciate it. Helen Cobb Rehm

The Cobbs are my family and I'm trying to figure out just who is buried there. There are only two headstones of the Cobbs, I think they are John Cobbs and his wife. I thought I might get something from the footstones. I have the Campbell CO Cemetery book that has the Cobbs Hall cem in it. Everything is pretty iffy. Sometimes they have initials on footstones. Will be glad to pay for gas and time. Appreciate it very much. Thanks!

Helen Cobb Rehm

My apologies for replying to this so far after the original posting but I haven't been a member here that long and I've just now seen this question.

Mildred Lee Morris Hughes was my Great-Aunt. There is a wealth of genealogical information on the Morris family in the Jones Memorial Library in Lynchburg, VA (http://www.jmlibrary.org/) including a family tree written on a piece of paper about 6' long and 3' wide! I took several pictures of it but sadly some of them are blurry. There are also several folders of information including a short auto-biography that Great-Aunt Mildred wrote. If you get a chance you should really visit the library and take a look. I need to go back since I need to retake some pictures of the family tree plus I think there might've been more information that I didn't check.
I'm not entirely sure you can see the family tree that I've created if so then some but by no means all of the information is in there. If not let me know and I'll try to figure out how to get you access.

-Eric

Thank you so much for replying to my query. I have all this information, but have gotten no further in my research on the Youngs of Campbell County. I have been searching for information on Susannah or possibly Susan Anna Hubbard Young who married my 4th great grandfather, William Scott. I am hampered by the fact that William died before 1850, (from an old turn of the century letter found from an elderly ancestor), proportedly in a sawmill accident. I do not know if Susannah Hubbard Young was her maiden name or a previous marrieage name. I do not know what happened to her. The Youngs seem to have disappeared from Campbell County all at once. This could be due to a change of County line, or they just left the state for reasons unknown. Thanks again, Kat Dudley

I am looking for any information about John Inge, b. abt. May of 1862 and his wife Alma (LNU) b. abt. June 1866. They had a daughter, Minnie Victoria Inge, b. June 1884 who married into the Daniel family of Brunswick County, VA.

The 1900 Census where they are living with children William, Minnie, Emmell, Ella and Gracie, and a number of boarders. This is in the Brookville District of Campbell County.

There is a Mary Inge living with a Grace Inge in Meherrin, Brunswick County in 1940 who is widowed.

Alma's last name (and verification that her full name is Mary Alma) would be great as well as their parents if possible.

Thank you.

Madora A. Morris and and William P. Walker were married on 31 December 1874 in Campbell County in Otter River Township at Leesville by R. A. Lee, minister. Madora, daughter of A. G. and Nancy Morris, was age 21 and born and residing in Campbell County. William, son of Joel and U. C. Walker, was age 30, born in Bedford County, residing in Botetourt County, and a farmer. [Marriage License]

I could not find William on the 1880 Census.

The 1900 Census, Otter River, Campbell County, Virginia, listed William Walker (age 51, November 1848, married 26 years, renting house, and invalid), wife Madora Walker (age 48, born July 1851, married 26 years, and mother of 9 children, 8 of whom were living), son Mathiew Walker (age 3 and born May 1897), boarder Lillie Blnkship (age 16, born August 1883, and servant home), boarder Anjne Blnkship (age 13, born June 1886, and house servant), boarder Rufus Blnkship (age 18, born April 1882, and farm laborer), boarder Osca Blnkship (age 30, born April 1870, and farm labor), and boarder Brown Lacey (age 27, born May 1873, and saw mill laborer). All were born in Virginia as were their parents. W. A. Perrow enumerated the census on 23 June 1900. [District 23, p. 16B] Microfilm p. 125B] aat

The estate of William P. Walker, Confederate soldier, pensioner, in account with Eugene Ould, administrator, was dated 23 July 1914 and recorded November 1914. Among items listed were funeral expenses $25 paid on 27 October 1910 and paid to A. B. Blankinship by order of Mrs. Walker, widow, for burial expenses of $20.50 paid on 7 December 1910.
You may like to contact Jones Memorial Library in Lynchburg and see if there is an obituary for William Henry Hardy. Perhaps his parents may have been named in it. See http://jmlibrary.org/ for the website.

You may want to contact the Campbell County Circuit Court Clerk's Office. If William's marriage license was filed there, you may order a copy. Send a check for 50 cents made out to Campbell County Circuit Court Clerk, P. O. Box 7, Rustburg, Virginia 24588 and a self-addressed-stamped envelope along with your letter. Your request will be filled promptly.
Re: I can look up records for you!! . Campbell Co. VA

I have a question that you might be able to find some paperwork to answer. I am searching for William Henry Hardy, born 12/15/1901 in Lynchburg, Campbell, VA. He married Katie Evelyn Wilson about 1922. In 1930 census, Rustburg, Campbell, VA, Kattie Hardy was living with her parents, listed as married, with her three children. Then, in 1940 Rustburg, Campbell, VA census, she was living back in the hh with her husband, William Henry Hardy, and they have two more children. There is about a 10 year span where he seems to have disappeared. I was wondering if maybe there would be some record that you could find that would close this gap for me? Was he in jail; did they just separate for 10 years; what happened? There was no war at that time, so that could not be it. I do not know if you could find me a death record or not, also? He seems to have died 3/25/1962, and I do not even know who his parents were? I really hope that you can help me. Thank you. Sharon

Amelia,
really I hope to receive good news from Wilbur's daughter.
I want to give you one more information that I forgot last time that I wrote. The place where my friend Giovanni found the dog tag is Pisa, during the WWII in that place there was also the 92 Divison (Buffalo)that was only of coloured man. I don't know whether Wilbur belonged to the 92 Division. On his enlistement records at the voce "Race and Citizenship" there is an "Undefined Code".
Thank you for your great work. I hope to hear from you again.
She never returned my call.

Today I wrote her a letter and sent her a copy of our communications. I do hope that she is Wilbur's daughter and that she will write to you soon. I hope that Wilbur's dog tag may be returned to his family.

Sincerely,

Amelia

Looking for help with the family of a David Talley lived in Campbell County at least from 1780s thru at least 1814. Believe he had at least 2 children: Doshia and David Jr. Both Children married BUTTERWORTHS and moved to Sumner Co TN before 1820 where Zach Talley Sr was living with part of his family. The rest of Zach Sr's family stayed back in Cumberland County, VA. Another BUTTERWORTH - John who was Doshia's brother-in-law married one of Zach Sr's daughters -Lucy and they also lived in Sumner Co TN before moving to Davidson County.
This David Talley Sr may have come from Hanover County ABT 1785 but cannot quite confirm that. There is a David in Havover but he falls off the radar after 1784 which is about the time my David shows up in Campbell County.
I have also heard that there was a William Talley who was married in Campbell County in 1769 but I only have that as a rumor.
Any help in sorting out the Talleys would be much appreciated. I descend from Doshia Talley who married Joseph Butterworth and moved on to TN and KY.
THANX, Wayne Jones

Amelia,
that could be a great news, I hope you can call her and explain what's going on.
I like search with my metal detector in the place where the US Army was during the WWII.Apropos you can have a look at my web site (www.silviopassalalpi.it), many pages are translate in english. Sometime I go to search with a friend of mine, Giovanni. About ten days ago we went for searching in a area close to Pisa where thousands of US soldier stayed for a long time.
In that place Giovanni found a dog tag belonging to WILBUR E. BIBBITT, serial number 33529147, blood "O", protestant. I wrote Bibbitt it isn't a my mistake, on the dog tag the surname is Bibbitt. Using the serial number on the governative NARA web site, I collected information about Wilbur and I discovered that his correct surname is Bobbitt. That means that tipying the dog tag someone made a mistake and that Wilbur asked for a new one. That's the little story about Giovanni's finding.Have a look to the attachment.
I hope to receive good news soon.
Ciao,
Silvio

It appears that Wilbur and his wife both lived in Roanoke, Virginia. If someone who lives in Roanoke, Virginia could look up the obituaries of Wilbur and his wife, you may be able to locate their children and send their father's dog tag to them.

Amelia

Name: Wilbur Bobbitt
Born: 30 Sep 1923
Last Benefit: 24015 Roanoke, Roanoke City, Virginia, United States of America
Died: Sep 1982
Social Security Death Index

Name: Sally S.
