Was living in Center Valley Community, Carroll County, Virginia, in 1914 moved to Laurel Community of Carroll County, Virginia. He moved with his wife and 4 children. He purchased 70 acres and it had an old house, a steam powered grain mill, an orchard, and a sawmill on the property. He sawed the lumber for the first house in Galax, before 1920. It was located near the present depot in Galax.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Peggy Sizemore of Austinville; and two grandsons.

A funeral was held Sunday at Woodlawn Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the Coulson Church Cemetery. The Revs. Harvey Carico and Billy Dean officiated.

Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Frost; two daughters, Miss Bobbie Frost and Miss Bonnie Frost, both of the home; one son, Charles Frost, of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Jettie Stoneman and Mrs. Nettie Combs, both of Galax; Mrs. Nina Melton of Fancy Gap and Mrs. Elvie Brady of Mount Airy; and one brother, Howard Combs of Cana.

Funeral services was held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 2, at Blue Ridge Chapel Church, followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Beulah Juanita Frost Murphy age 84 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Murphy was born in Virginia on September 13, 1927 to Richard and Clara Thomason Frost. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harl Worth Murphy and brothers Roy Lee Frost and Rex Frost.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Larry and Kathy Murphy of Kingsport, Tennessee; Gary Murphy of Galax, Virginia; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 4:00 PM in the Mt. Vale United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the church.

Notes for NOAH BOLEN JARRELL:
Noah Bolen Jarrell, 86, of Baltimore, Md., a former resident of Galax (Carroll County), died Nov. 30, 1983, in a convalescent home in Annapolis, Md.

He was born Feb. 2, 1897 to Dennis Jarrell and Ellen Underwood Jarrell. He served in France during World War I. Upon his discharge from the Army, he was employed by Webb Furniture Co. of Galax.
Mr. Jarrell was married twice. He and his first wife had one daughter, Mary E. Bevil, and two sons, Nelson Roy Jarrell and Clayton B. Jarrell, all of Maryland. Mrs. Jarrell's first wife passed away in November 1941. He remarried to Sophina McMillan, who had one daughter, Gladys David, and two sons, Rector McMillan and Wayne McMillan, from her previous marriage. Shortly after this marriage he moved to Baltimore, where he had a son, Lester Bolen Jarrell.
Mr. Jarrell was employed by the U.S. Coast Guard in Curtis Bay, Md., until his retirement due to declining health. He remained an active member of the Emmanuel Wesleyan Church of Baltimore for over 30 years.

Surviving are one daughter, three sons, one step-daughter, two step sons, 17 grandchildren; and 22 great­grandchildren, all of whom reside in Maryland; and a younger brother, George H. Jarrell of Draper.

Services were held Dec. 2 at Raymond Fink Funeral Home, Glen Bernie, Md., with the Rev. Gary Hicks, pastor of the Emmanuel Wesleyan Church, officiating.
Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery

Nelson Roy Jarrell age 88 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Mr. Jarrell was born on December 24, 1924 in Galax, Virginia to Noah Bolen and Emma Frost Jarrell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Roy Nelson Jarrell, Jr..

Mr. Jarrell proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He retired as a welder from Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point, Maryland in 1985 after 36 years of service. He enjoyed collecting and refurbishing antique clocks. He was a member of the Baywood Wesleyan Church in Galax, Virginia.

He is survived by his wife Edna Harmon Jarrell of Galax, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law Brenda & Will Young; Nancy & Ralph Mason; Julie & Roop Sharma; son Ronald Jarrell; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday, March 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Barry Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Topeka Cemetery with Military Rites by the Hillsville VFW Post 1115. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Baywood Wesleyan Church, 1995 Old Baywood Road, Galax, Virginia 24333.

Sidney Samuel Hawks, 77, of Graham, N.C., a native of Fancy Gap, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

He was born to Oscar and Tacy Hawks and was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Fancy Gap.

Survivors include his wife, Leda Shirley Hawks of the home; a son, William Anderson "Andy" Hawks of Graham, N.C.; a sister, Ellen Smith of Salisbury, N.C.; two nieces and two nephews.

A graveside service was held Wednesday at the Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Fancy Gap.

McClure Funeral Service in Graham, N.C. was in charge of arrangements
