I am trying to find out if my ancestor William Marshall participated in the Revolutionary War. I know he was born c. 1752 in Charlotte County, Va. He also died in Charlotte County. His will was probated in 1805. His parents were John Wilkins Marshall and his mother was Hannah Baldwin or Caldwell, dau. of Vincent. According to Virginia Military Records he was an Ensign in the Charlotte Cty. Militia, on July 20, 1778. His brother Benjamin Marshall is considered to be a Rev. War Soldier. He was also in the Charlotte County Militia. William was married to Elizabeth, she died in Green County Kentucky c. 1837, where she moved after her husband's death. His will is in the Charlotte County, Va. Will Book 2, page 309 and is dated June 1805. Executors of his will were Elizabeth, his wife, and son John, and brother Benjamin. His other four sons, William, Benjamin, Beverly, and Samuel were listed under age. I do know that the Charlotte County Militia participated in some of the Revolutionary War engagements. I just don't know if William Marshall was in the militia at those times. I have a theory that he died before most Rev. War. soldiers were granted pensions, and therefore pension records might not be available. Thank you.
