Cousin A.J. Myers has been deceased for a number of years. I think he got this info from me, but mostly what I have is oral tradition and although I now live in Hanover I haven't followed up on the Perdues/Smiths. From what my Grandfather told me in the early 70s, John Smith was the overseer on the Perdue plantation in Chesterfield. Betsy Perdue fell in love with him but the union wasn't sanctioned by the family so they headed west with a wagon, cow, and a couple slaves. Not sure what is fact or fiction.
