Can't thank you enough!!! It's reasonable, the location works, the Dr. was a surgeon in the confederacy and Stonebraker would have known this....excellent. As for the slight alteration in the name, I am starting to think Stonebraker does this intentionally. Earlier in the book, while traveling through Madison County, Va. he wrote he stayed with a "Mrs. Chaplain" It was actually Mrs. Ann O. Chapman. That took a few weeks to sort out also. Thanks again.
