I am trying to contact the Mary B Boswell whose 1999 email address missmary@cfw.com no longer works.

Dear Mary B Boswell,

I am searching for a George Kidd b 1912, living aged 10 in 1920 Sussex Co, VA in household of his uncle John Kidd and wife Minnie.

A Booth/Humphries researcher sent me the marriage info
of Mamie Humphries and Living Kidd. see this link http://booth.genecharris.com/getperson.php?personI The comiler/researcher said the Kidd info came from a tombstone inscription (presumably Mamie's) contributed by you in 1999. I am wondering if Living Kidd is my George Kidd?

Thank you,
Rebecca
Well I must confess I have not done too much lately due to lots of things. But I would love to swap information. I probally don't have as much as I would like, but i have to keep digging. My Mother and Aunt are the last of William Bruce Elmore who lived in New Castle, VA. My Aunt is going to be moving up to where I live so I can look after more. She is 91 and still has every one of her brain cells. We plan to go through all of the family photos. I think that will be fun!
Pam

Since me and no one else in my family know where she is buried or who her parents are so she is either buried in craig or giles.

Hard to teach an old dog new tricks, I guess. lol!

I've only been doing the genealogy thing for about a year, but am having a great time connecting with relatives I didn't even know I had. Between the Crafts, Elmores, and Hancocks, I think we could fill up the entire state of Va. with no room left over for anyone not related!

Wow! Talk about 6 degrees of separation! I'm related to Billy Bruce through the Elmore/Gant line. My great grandmother was Sarah (Sally) Elmore, second wife of John Spencer Craft. His first wife was Sarah's siser, Catherine, and his brother, George was married to Martha, sister of Sarah and Catherine!

My grandfather, son of John and Sarah, was Charles LaFayette Craft, and my father was Robert Frazier Craft. He was the Chief of Police in Clifton Forge, Va., about 40 miles from New Castle, that that was a frequent Sunday drive for us.

My dad's sister, Willie Amanda "Bill" Sublett and her husband, Haden, were owners and Editors of the New Castle Record. They had 2 daughters, Ella Jean and Virginia Mae. I think it's possible that Ella was named for your mother! Ginny Mae was named for my aunt, Leslie Virginia, but maybe for your mom,as well.

As a kid (I'm 63 now), I was crazy about Billy Bruce and Corrine, even stayed with them sometimes. Needless to say, I was elated when my dad told me we were related!

I left Clifton Forge in 1969, and am in SC now, but will be moving back there this fall. My sister and I are planning a trip to New Castle. I haven't been there in years, but it was my second home growing up, so can't wait to see it again. We're going to try to get to see the old homeplace. Granddaddy and Grandma lived on a farm on Craig's creek, called "Whistle Bend". I want to go to the Historical Society and the Court House,as well, plus the cemeteries.

Are you in Virginia? I'm hearing from lots of cousins I didn't know I had. It would be fun to set up a family reunion of some kind, but don't know if it's feasible.

Thanks for responding to my message-it's really nice to make a connection with someone with such a close connection to Billy Bruce and Corrine.

Donna. Oh, my e-mail is: dgibby@aol.com

Donna

I had forgotten I had put this e-mail out in 2005. I do remember my Uncle Billy Elmore and Aunt Corrine. MY Mother is Ella Virginia, Uncle Billy's sister. Mother is still living but is in a nursing home and does not have much of her mind. Mother ( and Billy's) older sister Muriel Robbinson is still living and is 92 years young. My brother Andy is care taker of Aunt Muriel. The three of them are in Florida.
I didn't know about a resturant, only the drug store which might have had a kitchen in it. I was a small child when I went to it. I was in New Castle about two years ago and I have seen where the old homeplace had been torn down...sad.
How do you relate to Billy Bruce Elmore?
Pam Baker Howard

Hi, Steve. I think I was there as a little child (I'm 63 now). I know I've been to several cemeteries, the one near Paint Bank, the Huffman cemetery-lots of Craft's there. That was my dad's idea of a good time!

I hate to hear that the Waugh cemetery is in such bad shape. Thank you for all the work you do. Maybe one of the scout troops could take it on as a project. It's worth a try.

This is off the subject, but do you have any more copies of the book you wrote about Benjamin Richard Craft? I'd love to purchase it and/or any other books/papers you or Rena have written. If you'd let me know, I'll be getting the check made out asap!
Donna
It is never too late - Have you ever been in Waugh Cemetery, there are quite a few graves in there that are unmarked - quite a few indentations of where someone is buried - not sure how big the cemetery is supposed to be but its a mess in there. I know people have tried over the years to keep it clean - but I think they need to cut down quite a bit of brush and overgrown bushes down so you can get through there.
Let me get off my soap box and stop.

Waugh cemetery is kind of hard to find if you don't know much about New Castle - but when you come into New Castle from Ronaoke on Rt. 311 - take a right onto Main Street - when you get in front of the Courthouse - take a right at that corner (I don't even know the street name) anyway go down that road and when you get to a bridge - do not cross it because - just before you get to the bridge on the right it looks kind of like a road going into the woods and it takes you into the Waugh Cemetery. Stephen Andrew Hancock's first wife was Sarah Ballard Craft, a sister to Benjamin Richard Craft, Jr. - my great great grandfather.

Steve

There is no such thing as the Confederate Cemetery in Craig County - however there is a cemetery located in Craig City - or I should say three cemeteries connected in a triangle.
So far I have found at least 6 different names for said cemeteries - Wagener - Caldwell, Confederate, Yoder - Walker, McDonald, Craig City and Carper Cemetery in Craig City. As you leave New Castle going into Craig City - you can take the first right after crossing the bridge and follow (I think the name of the street is Commerce Street) any way follow that street until you get to 4th St. and the cemetery is on the right - it is now enclosed with a very nice split rail fence -

So far the following Cemeteries have been done, picture wise, I still have to resize, rename and make a list of who is buried in each, according to the information on stones - I am also trying to find out who is buried in each one who does not have a stone - Like I asked in an earlier message, any one who wants to help - please let me know. This is being done to help anyone who has ties to Craig County find the people they are looking for - I am also posting these to Findagrave.com - please check there if you want.

Thank you
Steve

I am looking for anyone who is willing to help me take pictures of all headstones in a cemetery - does not matter which one - just as long as you take a picture of something that lets me know which cemetery it its. I would also like to have written directions to the cemetery.

Once I get the pictures - I will have to resize, rename them and they will be posted on the Craig County Website - that way people who have ties to the county may check out the different cemeteries - and hopefully find someone kin to them.

So if you can help, please contact me and just let me know which cemetery you want to do - and how to get said pictures from you.

Thank You

Steve Taylor

Hi Steve,
I don't know if you have this information or not. It is about Amanda Caldwell daughter of William Harvey and Mariah Craft Caldwell. Amanda married Thomas Caldwell son of Carey and Sarah Crawford Caldwell. They had the following children:
William Newton
Elbert Edson
Elisha Winfred
Asa Byron
Nina Elizabeth
All the boys were born in Gallia County, Ohio. I haven't found where Nina was born as yet.

Lynn

Hi Steve,
I also have nine children for William Harvey and Mariah. But I do have an additional name. I found a birth for an Aura B. Caldwell mother was listed as Mariah. No father was listed. I have added to name but she was born after W. H. died so she is probably a granddaughter. I haven't figured it out yet. My husband is the Caldwell descendent. Amanda Irene was his great grandmother. Lisa and I share just about all info we get so she had shared items that you have shared with her with me. I'm not sure how you fit in with the Caldwell clan though. I would be happy to share my info with you. Amanda Irene married a Thomas Caldwell whose parents were Carey and Sarah Crawford Caldwell. Carey's parents I believe to be William and Elizabeth Hackett Caldwell. Sarah is found in Gallia County, Ohio with her children by 1850.

They ran a restaurant in New Castle,Va. during the '50's and 60's. We used to eat there all the time when we were visiting from Clifton Forge. My dad used to say that the food was good and we should keep the money in the family!
